I actually had a very similar problem (which is how I found this thread). I purchased a microKONTROL on ebay and found that none of the pads, soft buttons or knobs would work properly.

DISCLAIMER: Now, I'm not suggesting you do this.

I ended up taking the screws off the bottom of the unit (rows of 3, 3 and 5 screws) and removing the bottom. Before you can remove it you have to pull a small 3 prong ribbon cable free which connects from the battery compartment.

It turned out that one of the ribbon cables connecting to the smaller circuit board that the USB and MIDI ports sits on had popped loose. I reconnected this cable and now everything works fine.

So, yeah, ribbon cable could be loose. If you aren't confident checking this find someone who is.

And yes, I know this will likely void your warranty (if you somehow still have one).

Same problem with dud keys, and non-responding octave shift

Post by muzboz »

I have the exact same problem. It just started tonight.

4 of the keys now don't work (in Ableton, or Cubase, or when plugged directly into my Nord Electro 2 as a secondary keyboard controller).

And the Octave Shift buttons don't work either!

It just happened all of a sudden while using Ableton. The MicroKontrol just kind of fritzed out for a few seconds, and when it came back online, those few buttons and keys no longer work.

Have you managed to figure out the problem with yours? I'd love to fix it.

I don't know what to do. I'm in Australia, and I got it second hand, and there doesn't seem to be any way to fix it that I have found yet! Very sad and frustrating.

MicroKontrol help please? Anyone?

Post by muzboz »

Has anyone fixed this problem?

It sounds like it's reasonably common.

It renders the MicroKontrol totally useless.

I have no idea what happened to it, to make it spaz out.

Please help.

- Murray

PS: Any idea where to get this serviced in Melbourne, Australia?

I'd love to just be able to press a few buttons and reset it or something! :)

I just had one repaired due to keys F1 C#2, A2 and F3 not working. Repair information came back as:
Traced fault to leakage in slide pots and data enconder causing dataloss.
One switch and 2 pots were replaced now keys are working as intended.

I have a problem with microkontrol. When i connect it through usb to my laptop( macbookpro OS X) all lights are on but lcds don't show anything. I tried to adjust contrast from behind. It worked but when i turned microkontrol again lcds didn't work (just light) and this time adjusting contrast doesn't help at all. I don't know where is the problem: Drivers(i have installed latest drivers from korg website)? something wrong with controller?
I bought used one everything seems ok except lcd...i run my Reason and it works i mean when i load instruments i can hear sound etc.
Any ideas?
PS.Sorry for my broken english :)

disabled keys on KORG microKONTROL

Post by Hiljan »

I had similar problems with keys that just stopped to work when working with VDMX. I had them back upp working again after doing "search" and "test drive" of the MIDI units in the Utility folder.
Hope it works for you as well.

GET THE MICROKONTROL WORKING

Post by sebasevita »

IF YOUR MICROKONTROL KEYS ARE NOT WORKING, OR SOME ARE AND SOME ARE NOT, OR YOUR LCD SCREAN IS BLANK??? THERE IS A WAY OF FIXING IT.

DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!!!!!!!

DISCONNECT MICROKONTROL FROM COMPUTER, THEN UNSCREW THE BACK WITH A PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER, THEN DISCONNECT THE GRAY RIBBON CABLE, ALSO MAKE SURE THEY ARE CONNECTED RIGHT, THEN RECONNECT THE GRAY RIBBON CABLE BACK. BEFORE YOU SCREW THE BACK, GET A DUST-OFF COMPUTER DUSTER AND CLEAN IT. ONCE EVERYTHING IS SCREWED BACK ON, PLUG THE USB CABLE TO COMPUTER. KEYS AND LCD SCREAN SHOULD WORK. IT DID FOR ME AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS TO FIND A SOLUTION ONLINE. GOOD LUCK TO ALL

i hope its not late for you but heres the solution:
i had same problem and i been tryn to take the microkontrol to several places who fix electronic devices with any solution, so...i did this...i open the base of the keyboard, do it with care but dont worry its not that fragile, you must find a serial cable, just like the one of the hard disk on computers (its a gray (in my case) and its flat with about 20 pin or something) well, reconect the cable! thats it! i just make sure the terminals were connected and it works better than new!!!!!!!!!

i gess sometimes you move the device to one side to another and the terminals of those cables are not that tight, just make sure are connected right!

tell me if that helps because i been surfing for months to fix this issue and it was something really fast and easy
