buying a new oasys for cash

Hi i am going to buy a new 0asys 88 and im paying cash. the shop wont drop the price. They said korg wont allow them to. its £5399 but they told me when i buy it the will do me a deal with extras. How much should i expect in accessories? i was thinking about 500 quids worth. or does this sound like im expecting too much. If anyone in the UK has bought one let me know what to expect

Take whatever you can get - most (if not all) of us in the UK have not had that sort of offer from the dealer. Out of interest, who is making the offer??

Well Mark its a while since I bought mine but the dealer is right ,the price for the OASYS is fixed.I was lucky I part exd some gear when I got mine but as regards the extra's.....dunno its difficult.

What da need?A keyboard Stand?Extra control or expression pedals?I doubt they will throw in £500 worth of goodies but ya never know.

I don't know what countries you guys are in but here in Toronto, Canada, the prices most certainly are NOT fixed. I have been hunting around the music shops and I have found prices for the 88 ranging from $6798 (lowest I have found) to over $8000...

I think $6798 is an excellent deal for this machine... You may want to see if this place will ship to the UK. I bet that even with shipping and duties, it will be MUCH cheaper! PM me, not sure if it's ok to post company names in the forum.

6798 CAD is about £3326....

dont forget to add cost of shipping to UK....about £200 and then on top of that 3.5% for import tax, and then 17.5% VAT on top of that....lets work that out....approx £4300. Yes quite a bit cheaper than buying in UK...but probably no warranty as would only be valid in country of purchase..not sure though, but need to check.

What I am trying to say is dont forget hidden costs when doing overseas purchases. I bought a Jupiter 6 from US and forgot about the shipping, tax, etc and ended up paying about £300 more than I expected. Still one lives and learns. But look into it and you may be able to save some money.

I would also be careful buying second hand as there are a lot of fraudsters using the OASYS in particular to try and scam people looking to buy, i.e. loads of fake ebay listings for OASYS.

I must stress that it is KORG UK who dictate the pricing in the UK. They stipulate to dealers that they CANNOT sell the OASYS for less than the RRP.Plus they have to meet a dealership 5 star status ,it is only available at these outlets if you want to purchase a new OASYS as some of their staff have been trained to give backup to the buyers.

I suppose its Korg's way of trying to provide a first class service for a boutique product.

Im getting it today. they are knocking 10% off. from £5399 to $4899 and throwing in a 50 quid stand. i dont think ill get a better deal than this for a brand new oasys 88. Im getting it from Dawsons

I think its really bad that i get all the cash together go into the shop today and the fella who knocked 10% off spoke to someone else who works in the shop and then told me he cant drop the price after all. he phoned korg and they said no you cant drop it. he then told me if you change you mind we have one in stock. I told him after this im not changing my mind.
5 minutes later i went back in and said if you give me 15% of extras ill buy it. they gave me 600 quids worth of gear. so i suppose its better than nothing.

What a crappy policy of not being able to drop the price. The cost of the machine is probably half of what it was when it first came out. Has Korg dropped the price at all in the last few years?

All of a sudden, I'm very glad I live in Canada where I only have to pay $7k instead of 10K for a keyboard

No not in the UK....why???...because they still class it has a boutique and 100% pro piece of equipment.I suppose they are trying to treat it like the Aston Martin of keyboards.I do understand where they are coming from as well in one regard and from a selfish point of view it keeps my OASYS's value up(not that I'm selling)...

The price has been debated so many times.....I still say you get what you pay for and in this case top top quality....some beg to differ but they just don't get it and never will.

Well done to you who live in the US or Canada if you get it so much cheaper.

I mean the actual cost of Korg to build it, not the cost for a dealer to buy it... You are not paying the cost to build, you are paying what Korg wants you to and then you sell it to the customer...

A lot of the cost with the Oasys is the screen and computer components that come with. The case and keyboard probably cost no more than the M3 (well, maybe a bit more since the M3 looks like ass). Those pieces of electronics (CPU, RAM, screen, CD (not even a DVD drive), etc) are a fraction of what they cost when this machine was released.

So, yes, Korg's cost to build is MUCH lower than it was when it was first released and if I had to guess based on component pricing, I would say half the cost.

Of course, they need to make money because they are still developing the software...

Just because they still charge dealers the same amount of money doesn't mean that Korg's cost is the same...
