RicFreak's XRM -- continuing development?

Post by Mickb »

Hi everybody

While putting another project on hold I am looking at the program by RicFreak called XRM. he stopped development on it a few years ago and it does not seem to be still available.

ok here are my questions regarding XRM:

Do people still use it?

Do you have a list of upgrades and / or features you would like to see added to it?

Would you like a program for managing your styles and combining individual styles into a custom .set of styles?

does anybody have current contact details for RicFreak? I have tried contacting him several times over the past year regarding continuing development of XRM without success

I would like to be able to contact him and receive his permission to continue development of XRM if that is not possible then I would be willing to develop a similar progam to it incorporating any suggestions received from forum members.

Hi, Micke!

It must be more than two yeas ago when I tried to use this utility from Riccardo (Rickfreak). I downloaded the utility from his home site, http://www.oggi.it/ricfreakprog but, unfortunately I’ve never managed to get it work.

I also tried to contact him by email for several times, intending to offer him my help in debugging & testing the XMR but, he never answered back (probably being to busy with many other projects or maybe his ordinary daily job).

I must admit that XMR was quite a nice idea about managing style sets and would be great if someone else who has enough VB programming knowledge and is willing to help the community by continue develop the utility to be 100% functional and compatible with Pa1X -Pa2X.

As I mentioned before, I’ve never had the XMR working, but I’m still using one of Riccardo’s very useful utility (Kss) that’s help me find out and export lists with what styles sets consists of. Actually, if I’m not wrong, this utility is doing exactly what one of those “first stage” functions you were intended to put into your new software, isn’t it?

Any way, I don’t think Riccardo will be against anyone who want to continue develop the XMR making it fully functional and keep it compatible with the latest Korg keyboards series.

Hi Tascone

yes you are correct, KSS is what I was proposing as a first stage except it is only compatible with .STY files for the PA50/60/80 in other words files containing 16 styles and not those containing the 32 found in the .STY files belonging to the PA1x/2X/500/800.

what problem were you finding with XRM is it that you could not save or load a bank?

Hi all

At present I have version 1.2 of XRM and one of the main problems I can see with it in relation to using it with thePA1X is that it only creates banks consisting of 16 styles ( a legacy from its PA80 roots) if anyone has a later version including the MS Access database backbone and is willing to send it to me I would be very grateful as this would save me quite a lot of time in getting a new version of it, capable of creating banks containing 32 styles suitable for the PA1X developed and released to the Korg community.

My intention is to, at first, re create a fully functional Style manager based on XRM and then to take this further and expand it to allow the user to manage Programs (Sounds), User Drumkits and then hopefully Performances.

For anyone who was following the other thread http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=31707 about a style editing utility, This is not a replacement, it is being designed from the start to incorporate the features due in that software, but rather than waiting for the .dll library from korg before doing anything I am using the time to build a resource manager which will then be capable of being used as an editor whenever the appropiate API is available.

Once again, if anyone has up to date contact details for Riccardio (RicFreak) please forward them to me, I know he published the source code for XRM before and the link has been dead for at least a year, and I would like to contact him regarding any info he might still have regarding XRM.

Hi, Mick!

I'll check through my disks during this weekend and maybe I'll find any XMR file left from the latest download. If so, I’ll send them over to you.

Hi Mick,

I worked on XRM project (solved the write bug issue for PA1X performances and shared it with RicFreak). I do have the VB6 source code for both .STY and Performances, send me a PM with your email, I'll provide the latest source codes for you.
