EMX - playing subset of pattern?

Hello,

Just got my EMX a week ago and I am in love with it. I do however have one problem.

If I have a pattern which is 8 in length, is there any way I can play - say only section 7? It is annoying if Im step-editing a section of a melody and I have to listen to 6 beats before the actual change I made comes in.

Any ideas? I couldnt find anything about it in the manual.

step edit is a feature to fix mistakes and add fine details... electribes are ment to be played and patterns are ment to be played out. That's what adds dynamics and little changes which makes them so organic.

And as to answer your question, no you can't. But you could sequence it externally from say ableton live and then record the sequence.

ok, this is right, but you can speed up the playback in order to go quickly to bar 6...just press SHIFT + arrows < > to scroll through the bars left/right instantlty

another way...more complicated but works

say you got an 8 bar pattern and you want to fine edit bar 6, so you want to hear that bar in loop...try this

1. stop the sequencer and press SHIFT + step2 (move data), display says "move" and step 2 blink

2. press step 2 again, move the data wheel until you get -6.00...by holding SHIFT while you move the data wheel it change quickly
so that means that the whoole pattern will rotate 6 bars to the left

3. press step 2 to execute the operation...your bar 6 is now bar 1

4. press the PATTERN button and scroll down until you see LENGHT...of course you know what it is since your pattern is 8 bar long

5. reduce that number to 1

presto...you have bar 6 playing in loop

now you can edit just taht bar in loop

IMPORTANT: DON´T SAVE IT UNTIL YOU RESTORE THE ORIGINAL PATTERN STRUCTURE

when you finish your bar 6 edition you have to get the other bars back to the pattern...the electribe hold that data ina buffer, so if you go to the LENGH parameter and set it to 8 the "lost" data appears again

now do the inverse procedure of data moving to make the bar 6 (now 1) go to its original location...so go to move data, and set the value to +6

if it worth all that work deppends of how difficult to edit that part is...this is your decision

i was trying that, with both notes and cc, but is hard to achieve a perfect midi transfering...it ussually missed the first note or things like that

maybe is my computer/midi card/cables...

I learned 2 new things about electribes today.

The other is that if you press multiple buttons on the step keyboard it will arp those step keys. Never knew this, and the arp seems a lot fresher now that it has been for me!

Also, the order you press the keys changes the order the arp plays them.

like if you press and hold 1 then 6 the 4 it will play 1 then 6 then 4.
