DEAD RADIAS

Post by simonitov »

My RADIAS seems to have just given up the ghost !! Middle of recording. Switched it off to move it, tried switching it back on but absolutely NO life !!! Tried changing the adapter fuse but nothing.

Sound familiar to anyone ?!! Any opinions as to the most likely cause ? Power Adapter ?? RADIAS itself !! I've already got an issue with a screwed microKORG where the left channel has gone dead on me !!

ARE KORG SHITE ???!!! ARE KORG INSTRUMENTS UNRELIABLE ??? I have two KORG instruments. Both are shagged. That's 100% unreliablility in my book. Our million selling album is doomed

Grrrrghh !!!

what are you using for power protection, if you've had 2 units go bad there might be some spikes occuring that are not being filtered out through a surge protector/power conditioner.

A surge should not affect a wallwarts output......
If anything, its diodes should blow up first.....

It happened during a Restart...... not while it was on.....
Try seeing your firmware by holding down "Master FX" and both "<"cursor">" while powering up........
If you see anything ....reboot it.....
Time Can be Mastered,

Frankly I can't see that it is surge related - surely not on a domestic supply ?? And wouldn't the power adapter effectively isolate the KORG unit from any mains' surges anyway ?

I tried what you suggested with the Master and < > switches but still nothing.

I am going to try to take the power supply to a electronics wizzo friend today in the hope that something in it has blown. If not, I'll have to pay KORG to mend their product for me !! (Depending on how that goes, it might end up on eBay!!)

I wouldn't mind but I don't heavily use this synth; it's not like I am a jobbing professional musician who uses it day in day out leaving it on all the time. In the 13 months since I bought it, it really hasn't been put through its paces. God help any such professionals that truely would be relying on its integrity.

(Do I sound bitter ?!! :) )

For those who might be interested, there is a 15mm 5 amp fuse **inside** the power adapter - it had blown. The electronics wizzo said that when things get hot (it had been on for probably 1 or 2 hours), turning them off and then on fairly quickly again can cause too much power to be drawn and hence the blown fuse (some white man's magic to do with capacitance but it was all lost on me :) ).

Anyway - dunno what the moral of this story is - never turn off your RADIAS ?!

Yes, I would say Korg instruments are unreliable in comparison to let's say Roland. I also have 2 Korgs and they are both busted...

And I hear Korg breakdowns all the time. Roland - almost never.

This is my personal experience and IMHO. So feel free to disagree.
My gear: Roland Fantom x8 - Korg Radias - Access Virus b - Roland Jp-8000 - Moog da Rogue

I do worry about something happening with my Radias R... I had an MS2000 R a few years ago and one day it just stopped putting out any sound whatsoever. I could select all the different banks and patches and it looked to be operating normally, just couldn't hear whether or not it was... :?
