of course i would love to be able to use it as a proper mixer, but if i can't then sure as hell i'm gonna use a + £1,000 piece of equipment for something, even if it is a midi controller...

otherwise it just sits in my bedroom

Cant really answer that. I am looking at selling mine, and grabbing the new Vestax Midi Controller when it comes out...

my zero 8 doesnt have the hiss on. It works like a dream out. I have used it for both djing and live on 2 funktion 1 soundsystems and it sounded awsome.

if u aint got the 'hiss' then ur fine. enjoy!

this was actually my 3rd event... this time is was an 18th bday party, bunch of party kids! i was worried about the hiss and the monitoring...so to eliminate that problem i bought a headphone amp and that fixed that, but without it, it would've been a problem for sure. the headphone levels are too low!

hiss wasn't an issue in that type of setting. i was playing too loud to hear it.

but one concern was the overall output...my channel gains were at 1pm, my main level was at 5pm (max i think) and my channel faders were up all the way and still i was not pushing the VU meters that much and the overall volume could have been much louder. (i had to go to the speakers and crank their volumes up more, which shouldn't be the case, i didnt have that problem with my old numark dm-1950)

You need to turn the channel gains up higher to get the VU meters working. They need to be around 3 o'clock.

the manual states that it should not hit RED or it will distort.

Yes, I understand that to be true (at least, in theory).

However, I believe these mixers do not perform as intended. Hence, the hiss noise problems combined with nearly non-functional VU meters.

heres the trick

turn monitors down to 25%

turn input trim on channel all the way up in system settings.

turn gain until its in the red but not banging red bright..

turn master all the way up full!

set booth how you want

this mixer runs hot, so this way you dont hear that digital noise hiss...

its actually a very loud mixer and if you run it like this the vu meters work better, and the sound has no audible hiss..

it actually plays really loud as well on speakers, so at 25% its still pretty loud...

this works for me in the meantime, well see what they will do with a mod...

but this is really the best and viable solution
