microkontrol jumping
does anyone have any ideas how my knobs are jumpimg over values.
i can best explain this by it skipping clips and jumping from one area to the next. happens in other DAWS too. when changing the settings. kind of odd. my controller is clean and thought it may be a programming issue. I spoke to peeps from ableton and they said it has to do with controller settings.
any replies are much appreciated..
thanks,
michael

Checkk Out "Spinning Wheels"

Does this fit the discription? Either way, no one has resolved this issue. I thought it might be an issue with the imput port, so I turned off all messages to the microkontrol. Didn't help.

I should also mention
I should also mention that I broke down and replaced it with a new unit (my templates and sessions are tightly customized to using it) and after less than a year, the first encoder is developing the same issues. As I write this, the problem had been occurring for the last day, and twiddling it now seems to have made it want to work again, but who knows why or for how long...Maybe looking into some MIDI latency issues would solve it, I really can't say.
yep this is exactly it. it's happened from the first moment I opened the box. I thought it might be me, so I've dig geeper and deeper on how to operate the unit. I now know this to be the unit itself. I dont want to open it myself and risk ruining the warranty. I am thinking of dropping it on ebay or returning it to the factory. Any ideas, feedback is appreciated. thank you
My K49 had the same problem with encoder1 last year, my warranty had expired so the dealer replaced the encoder(it definitely is a hardwareproblem) for Eur 65,- (about $100,- US). Unfortunately last week encoder8 had the same problem so its gonna cost me another Eur 65,- !!!
Then there is still the problem with the padsensitivity in Reason and the almost nonexisting native functionality in Ableton Live so my 'Korg days' are definitely over now. I'm switching to Novation next week......

I have this very same problem here, knobs 1, 2 and 3 seem faulty/jumping. I wish there was a fix because I love the minikeys and pads and a great Logic Pro integration using Mackie Control emulation which Novation doesn't have. I wouldn't mind if anyone came with a way to fix it even if it means opening the unit. Maybe pouring a little oil under the knobs may fix it, i'll try that later today.
On the other hand I have noticed that if you give the knobs a "warm-up" for a couple of minutes they work better, but it's not very reliable for stage so I often use the sliders instead.
It's a real pity because it's the best controller for my needs but it seems plagued with faulty knobs and a very poor support regarding Mac Universal Binary updates for the editor.

as a back up.
Yeah, definitely a sure sign to ween us off this unit. All I'm doing now is reassigning the encoders to work more like switches or buttons. Because I use ableton a lot, I have no problem using the encoders for multi-assigned switches. That way, when I do find a unit that meets my needs as this one has, I'll be ready to move over to it, less fuss. I've already picked up the novation zero sl and I'll grab a nocturn when it comes out. Very happy with the automap implementation, although the actual templates are much more delicate, and I don't trust myself to change things much.
Like you, I've enjoyed the small keys-beats banking a lot for different registers, and allows me to play open-voicings which sound less like keyboards and more like strings, voices etc.

any word back from the Korg people on this?
Mine has had constant troubles OTB.
I still have until the end of the year on my two year warranty.
I wish I'd gotten the Kontrol 49
please help Korg, this is a known ongoing issue.
any remedies.
i am using this controller for Reason in native mode, and the knobs are needed quite badly.
thank you

Sorry to revive this thread, but is there any official word from Korg AT ALL regarding this problem, because I'm getting pretty pissed
And it seems to be a well-spread issue, because I know of lots of other faulty korg controllers. As of now, my Kontrol49 is only an overpriced and faulty piece of gear, that's missing a whole lot of it's potential use.

Some of this problem may be the standard Korg encoder pot issue that also plagues the Electribe series units, and I'll bet many others. It is a simple fix but don't do it if your machine is still under warranty, other wise it will void it.
The problem on some of the control surfaces is that the encoder pot gets "scratchy" in its electrical contacts, like a crackly volume control on a radio or amplifier. The Korg processor then cannot get a proper fix on the resistance of the pot, and shows a jittery figure on the display. I'm not sure if this applies to all of the controls or just some (some of the knobs may actually be rotary encoders, not pots - it may be a different issue with them)
All you do is open up your unit and access the back of the pot in question. It should have a small access hatch or hole to its contacts in the side of it. Just get some electrical contact spray with an attachable straw nozzle for tiny places, and squirt a small amount of it in there. Turn your pot back and forth a few times and close your machine up. Switch it back on, and it should be good as new! In the worst case scenario, your pot may be worn out, but it would only be after many years of intense use, so I doubt it. If so, just go to an electronics shop for a cheap replacement and solder it in yourself.
Again, I stress that you should NOT do this to a machine under warranty, otherwise it will become void.
Cheers, graham
