Electribe to Reason4

Post by criscros_nl »

Hello big thank you to the contributors of the site , i have often found usfull info on this forum.

So to my Question , after trying difernt search techniques with no luck i hope my question hasnt already been answerd.

I have an electribe A mkII , ok i know its not the best electribe but thats not the point (for a noob in production i cant keep my hands off it) this box is rigged to a good pc(i built myself) thru midi to usb Now everything works fine , fantastic even .....

this box is set up in reason as follows - as theres no electribe to select in midi i have selected "other>midi multichannel control surface>standard input

apart from the fact i cant record anything from my box in reason4 everything plays how i want , i can even send dr-rex or redrum to the track lane or when i press record i can record changes to beats in rex or redrum ,

but no luck in recording the sounds made by me on my box in reason4.

After hours of seachin online watchin reason 3 vids (not quite the same) reading 2 differnt pdf's on reason and a vid on recording in reason 4 Everything to my knowladge is as it should be.

I am missing something but i have no clue whats wrong.

I tried to look for a electribe plugin for reason , no luck.

So what i have been doing is rocording with sound forge on the wave out. but i so realy wat to arange properly my samples and so on.

Sorry for the long post but i wanted to make sure i explained my problem well with my setup.

Any help would be much apreciated.

heres what i made http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2RcOFZsjwg

reason does not have the capability to record in, also i dont think it supports plug ins. all you can use your electribe for is a midi controller.

thinkin about it you can download a refill packer, and make your own refil with sounds from electribe. idont if this would solve your problem

Well i have to thank you for trying.

Reason can record , whats that big red button do..........

After checkin my midi settings and following the pdf help file , finaly am able to record the midi sent from my electribe to any device in Reason.i am now able to construct a track with loops played by me on the eclectribe in various reason devices.

Next question , any way of sending mic input to reason. ie:sending lyrics.

Thanx again digitalv

no

Reason can only record and respond to midi events
thats what that big red button does...

Reason cannot record audio at all
or run any plugins

if you want to do these things with reason
you must learn about "ReWire"

its a protocol built into Reason and most current major DAW sequencers
such as cubase, logic, protools, sonar, ableton live, FL7 etc....

it allows you to run reason as a "Slave" alongside one of these "Host Sequencers"

where you can sync the sequencers and transport controls together
and route reasons audio through the host.

you can use your reason instruments and songs in Reason
and do all your audio recording and VST instruments in your host sequencer
and run them simultaneously, side by side.
you can also route audio channels from Reason, into your Host Sequencers vst fx plugins and eq's etc if you desire.
but you can't run audio from your sequencer into reason (to use its fx)
you can also run midi tracks in your host sequencer, and select your reason instruments loaded in your Rack as its destination.
so you can control Subtractor from within cubase etc.

alternatively
as digitalv suggested
if you record your audio in something like soundforge
you can import those wave files into the various Reason samplers
(NN19, NNXT, Redrum or Dr.REX)
which ever seems more appropriate to you.

DrRex is the better one for loading loops
but you must run your audioloops through another program such as Recycle to convert them into the REX2 format that it requires.

basically with Reason, think of it like a simple closed box
you can't add any new plugins
it can't send midi and can't receive audio.

it only receives Midi

and only outputs Audio.

MIDI IN -----> | REASON | ------> Audio out

Afaik you can with the full version Bome's midi translator. With it you can turn mouse clicks into midi messages. There's no other way to step sequence redrum as the steps aren't assignable, there's no remote override mapping :(.

It's odd that the props don't allow the steps to be assigned.Step sequencing with a mouse? No thanks :?

i think my question is misunderstood ,

i have an electribe mkiII plugged into my pc midi/usb wired into reason , after adding devices to the rack when i play my tribe the devices makes the sound , so in effect my tribe is playing reason not reason playing the sound from my tribe.

I was already aware that the sound from my tribe would not play out thru reason.it was recording the sounds i made in reason thru the use of my tribe.

like i said in my last post the prob is sorted , i can now select sample in thor play the keys on my tribe and record the sound in reason.

ok am repeting myself.

I have control on redrum with my tribe , this was the reason lol i wanted so much that my recording prob was sorted so i can play keys on the tribe thru thor redrum ect record samples and loops and complie a track.YEPPIE

thanks for your comments 4NDRW.

oh cool
yeh i didn't think the steps were midi assignable by themselves
but this program sounds very useful
i'll look into it, thanks :)
i have an electribe on order.. :P
