Hi,

this time I decided to 'rediscover' my Waldorf mQ and make a song with it. All the sounds that you'll hear in this tune were generated by Waldorf, save for drums and solo lead because I couldn't resist playing it on the Moog

My music teacher said it was too long because the harmony would stay the same throughout the song. I thought he was right and so tried to rework the bass in the middle section, and cut couple of bars. However, the second time I couldn't get all the sounds right (didn't save my tweaks ) and the overall mix quality wasn't too good. I then decided to keep the original version and move on as I really cannot afford to spend more time on this. I'm getting married this Saturday and Joanna explicitly asked me (rightly so) to change priorities..

So here it is as it is. One thing that I like is the final mix. It was recorded with the 2496 Audiophile and mastered with izotope ozone. I went lenghts to get the bass right. The trouble with my Truth monitors is that they lie to me about low frequencies (it turnes out there are more on other systems). However, finally I made it sound good on the monitors, the headphones, mp3 player, car stereo as well as my hi-fi system with loudness on and off... still, I would appreciate some info how it sounds on your end.

Hey, Sewa, just starting up your song. It would help us keep track of your pieces if your topic title would include the month and title of the song also your SEWA in there would help too when we get emails regarding new postings in your thread.

Now for the song. I really like how it moves, it's fast and floating in a free spiritied way. At the 3:30 mark I really like the change ups and that lead that comes in. I've been trying to incorporate those thin sounding leads like that in my stuff lately. I think this is mixed perfectly and has a nice buzzing around my ears with all the different pads doing their thing. I think you've really nailed a strong synth song here. Good overall control of your sounds and everything seems well balanced and well thought thru as to the overall sound. Your signature seems to be well constructed, professional quality, electronic pieces that sit perfectly well in the sound spectrum you create. I can always count on your pieces to be polished with excellent production qualities. They sound effortless and yet this level of song production comes with much tweaking and experimenting and listening over and over and you do this to excellent result. Now for a pint to celebrate your upcoming wedding day. Just don't forget about us in May. We expect a sappy love ballad.

Great upbeat song. It seems to be over very quickly because the different phases of the song keep leading to new musical areas.
Love the sounds, especially the lead.
It all seems very balanced listening where I am now.

Love this!!!, you got it on this...

My kind of electronica....and leave it to me to miss the drum probs....I like the perc. o.k.!! The overall sound has ambience, yet maintains a good copy on the main tune, which is very nice, by the way...

Like the change ups also...but don't personally care much for extended slides....These however turn out very nice!!!

I felt the length was really quite good for this song, which seems to fit within the time frame very well indeed...

Very analog-y! The lead is out of this world awesome! A bit loud, but awesome! The song is good and has a well thought out structure. This version is not long at all.

I really love the dynamics more than anything. Lots of good ins and outs of instrumentation.

Therefore I won't give too much for you to change except-

1. Lower the lead a hair...and a delay would make it a bit richer.
2. Pan the background instruments more. Give us a little variety there.
3. It seemed to miss a little low-end on my system. I think you over-tweaked the bass in your efforts to get it right. They could come up a hair more. Or maybe the mastering compressed it a bit...hard to tell.

Thanks for constructive comments everyone! As for the bass being weak, that what it sounds on my monitors as well. However, it sounds just right on all my other speakers/headphones so I left it as it is. Getting the bass right in this type of music is the most difficult, IMHO, aspect of mastering. There are many types of bass sounds that a synthesiser can produce + one has to deal with lots of other frequencies trying to interfere. This exercise made me realize that I need a mixer channel with EQ's for each individual track. Hopefully, I'll produce my May tune using one of these:

Anyway that mixer looks sweet. And it has two separate group channels...that makes life MUCH easier. I have to hand it to anyone who is still using mostly outboard gear for their recordings. But I get a big taste of it when I do live shows.

Hi Sewa - Sorry I am late to the wedding party Big time congrats!!

One thing George failed to mention was your playing - it is always spot on. I agree with the bass being a bit too low (I can relate to the Truths lying about the low end as well!), and the lead coming in a bit to strong. These are minor things though. Excellent mix as always. And I can relate to the competing frequencies - especially the lower ones!! That is a big challenge - like a 10 headed beast from outer space needing taming!

The tune did go by fast - so I didn't find it to long. Actually I was hoping this was the short mix and was looking for the LP mix

Man those arps in the beginning sound sooo nice, and the thin synth. that comes in after that sure does sound pretty. Love the sliding btw - gets the listeners attention Nice integration of the parts - I always listen carefully to how you manage that!

I love this music - it's got a strong energetic feel that uplifts.....always a good thing!
