sadly I think we were beta testers, nowaydays compagnies droup out unfinished/untested units on market, . Im quite sure we' ll never have this "free fix", they will put a cheap digital noize gate on master and so people will say cool, there is no hiss... the new user will never complain about it cause it has been implemented and the history will be closed I gess...
sorry for language but i think we ve been f***ed up.
I believe that the new owners of zero8 has a digital fix in their console not a hardware..So korg wants to close their mouth with that way cause i can't see any information in their site about it..IF EVER THIS SERIES IS GOING TO FIX it will be somewhere in September not now..
I was told by Korg UK that this was an issue with what I was using with the zero 8 and not the zero 8 itself. But why would I not get hiss out of the headphones but get it through the main outs?
I have a pair f Mackie SRM-450 powered monitors. I can plug them into the wall and turn them on, and there will be no hiss. Then I can plug in the XLR cable to the Korg and turn it on and the hiss comes on.
The problem is the mixer. No question about it.
The mixer's XLR output is rated at +4 dBu
The input on my Mackie speakers is +4 dBu.
They should be perfectly matched. They are not.
The only way I can reduce the hiss is to turn down the gains on my Mackies almost all the way, and then run the gains and volumes at max on the Korg.
well ive learned today, that digital mixers are supposed to be run hot.
so this way it works fine with speakers turned down, input trim up, unity gain on fader and gain up...
you barely hear hiss and the mixer is loud..
remember this mixer is digital..
im pretty happy with what i learned, and actually the output is so good on the zero 8 that it could wreck your speakers, so its meant to be run hot, with less output needed from the sound system or monitors..
which isnt a bad thing, the way im starting to understand it..
As i mentioned somewhere else i got a seperate instruction sheet in the box with the zero 4 saying the channel levels should peak around 8 (last green LED) which is standard. The master should also be run peaking at around 0 which means controlling the master from the amp. This is alien to me but if thats how digital mixers work so be it. This could be a real pain in the ass if you are using powered speakers but im managing ok with amp & speaker set up!

So I was using it the correct way all this time by turning my speakers down and running the mixer all the way. OK. That's cool.
They should mention this in the owners manual. Have you ever taken a look at an Allen & Heath owners manual? They have pages of explanation about how to run levels on a mixer. If the Korg needs to be run differently, then they should explain it.
Had they done so, it would have saved them more than a year of grief from users experiencing the noise issues.
The way the instruction sheet was in the box all by itself it was as if they had just realised they should have put it in the manual but didnt do it in time!
