midi into cakewalk

Post by player1 »

Hello all
I have played over 10 years on my ketron X1 and also Midjay the last year, and now, when I have change to PA2X pro I find it difficulty to use the Cakewalk sonar, I have installed the midi to USB from the CD into my computer but I can not understand what to do after that
Shall I use the song play mode or the sequencer?
I hear the sound of drums even if I play the piano on channel 3 for ex.
can somebody out there help a new member to Korg

Hi Hasse,
can't help with Sonar, but when I midi my XG Works or Powertracks 12 software to my PA800, I enable midi in & midi out to PA800 & I normally set the PA800 to sequencer mode. If I set it to arranger mode I get strange playback at times.
Don't know how you're selecting sounds or what you're actually doing, but just make sure the correct bank & program changes are involved.
ie are you trying to play midifiles that used to work on your ketron or what??

best wishes
Rikki

Hello Rikki

Thank you for reply

I will test what you propose

I am not trying to play songs allready made in sonar, those works OK.
I make new music with my PA2X pro, you can ofcourse buy midifile but for me its important do do them by myself so if I use Sonar, Qubase or any other programs,it´s make no different, it´s the know how

Hi Hasse,
are you doing multi track recording ie track by track, or are you using styles?

I'm not really into recording, but it may help if other members know exactly what you're trying to do.

Midi recording

Post by player1 »

Hello Rikki

I am recording track by track from the beginning
for ex. start with an intro with bas piano guitar drum and string
evrey note in drum must be recorded (hihat snare kick)
and so on, you can decide from the beginning what kind of reverb and chorus you will add by sysex

Hello

I just sent you a Sonar file that can be used as a template for recording. I typically use this file which has the following tracks/channels setup for recording Korg PA800 styles into Sonar 7.

Channel 9 = Bass
Channel 10 = Drums
Channel 11 =Percussion
Channel 12 = ACC1
Channel 13 = ACC2
Channel 14 = ACC3
Channel 15 = ACC4
Channel 16 = ACC5

You may also want to use MidiOX which is used to diagnose MIDI communication issues.
