MOSS for Creating Drum Sounds, Any Good Results?

Post by elevated »

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently borrowing an analog drum synthesizer from a buddy of mine: the Vermona DRM1 MKII. It definitely has its own certain sound, but what I'm really in love with is way I can adjust each drum sound to cover such a wide range.

I'm assuming a virtual analog can do similar things, but just not as minutely adjustable. The problem is, where to begin? Has anyone created any useful drum sounds using the MOSS? I would be thrilled to get some programs to load as a starting point, or even just a few tips on where to begin.

I have to give the Vermona back in about a week, but I'm feeling kind of hooked on it! I've started sampling sounds out of it like crazy, but of course it's not quite the same without the tweakability...

Thanks,
Jake

Moss Drum Sounds... Results!

Post by elevated »

Hi Everyone,

I've finally made some progress on the TRITON/MOSS drum synthesizing. Based on the responses to my first message, it sounds like I'm trying some things with the Moss that aren't frequently done. Pretty cool!
:D
So far I've gotten an awesome electro snare, some cool toms, and decent hi-hats. The key has been additional sound shaping by adjusting compression and gating (using the internal effects, of course!).

I've also found that the sounds I get are more useful once I have sampled a perfect hit, since my patches respond to velocity and can be unstable.

I'm sure there are more experienced programmers than myself on this forum, so I'm extending an invitation to all MOSS users. I would like to trade patches with someone else who is able to come up with some usable drum sounds using only the EXB-MOSS. It's been lots of fun, and the tweakability in these unique drum sounds is really there!

Best,
Jake

Hi there, there are a few drum/perc sounds on my Moss soundset.

(Play with the controllers to morph/manipulate the sounds).

The four LFOs make MOSS great for rhythmic, arpeggiator-like hihats and similar.

Kick drums and snares are more than possible, too.

Due to analogue drum nature you don't need to use polyphony or unison for creating drum/perc stuff, so you could literally make up a whole 6-voice drum-kit/combi using Moss on the Triton!
