i am tottaly stuck trying to make my own music
things just dont fit and i dont know what to do
what do i do to get my creative juices goin
for all i have done on my electribe in the one month ive had it is do a couple of covers
The subject of writers block and how to write new songs has been covered sooooooooooooooooooooooo much. I couldn't even begin to relate all the ideas and practices.
Try doing an advanced search and see what we have covered in the past. I'm sure you will find a mega ton worth.
However, just a short idea. Take a couple of days break and listen to stuff you don't normally listen to. Try to see how a completly different music style would fit into yours, play with some new sounds and at different tempos and see if that helps.

As was stated there are some great threads here already, but I'll bite on this one, because it is such a critical hump to get over. My block buster ideas are: Do listen outside your genre. Listen to songs that are not the same style you are comosing in but yet you find inspirational. This could be jazz fuzion for me, or blues, or classic rock. If you need lyric ideas, I suggest poetry. I have some 'best of' poetry books from years past that I dig out just to wax poetic. I also write down lyric phrases that come to me while I'm listening to my mp3 player, somewhat stealing only a word or two from the current song but then making it my own by working that sensation or image into a different subject.
Also, as you have to start somewhere, once you have something that grabs you even a little, record that piece and walk around with it, or drive around with it playing and hum along. Jot down ideas. The important thing is to have paper and pen handy at all times throughout the day so you never really leave the song writing out of your mind for long. Eventually, I will come up with something. Also, on my TS there's a cue feature, so I will just do about 10 different 8 measure loops with some bass lines and a few other instruments and just combine and recombine until a verse/chorus thing begins to take shape.
I would say for me the most important thing in this initial "i'm blocked" phase is to reaffirm my belief in my own abilities and my own determination not to give up until I have something I like recorded or written. I often go into the 'beating myself up' mode which is totally counterproductive.

Dude
Play through it is my best advice. If you are stuck in a rut of playing the same stuff for a while then you need to leave it and play other stuff. Eventually your head will move on and you will be more motivated the next time you go back.
I used to be in a few metal bands and to be creative again I used to play acoustic folk at home so that next time I went to crunch in rehearsals I'd had a brake and my mind was ready to get back to writing riffs....
