Greetings all,
Just curious, are there any OASYS users integrating Roland's MV8000 or MV8800 in their setup?
Cheers,
Eric

In '03, we looked seriously at the MV8000 to use as a "MIDI player" (DJ style) and "beat producer" to make Dance Loops with the Karma WS.
Chose the MC-909 instead. Very similar sound engine, some features, effects etc.
What you looking for ? Use as?
With the O. . . . .
I'd trade it in a flash for a Radias R today

Hi John,
Thanks for the feedback. I was mainly thinking of it's sequencing power and more intuitive sample integration. However, I have an iMac on the way and will no doubt see where that takes me instead of an MV.
Cheers,
Eric

Exactly why we got the MC-909 (and I do love my RM1x for these
purposes), but. . . sequencer is slow/awkward (same as MV8000).
Lately, I most often use Ableton LIVE! on a laptop with older
small-key KORG Controller. Small black 'n whites for Scene
selection in Session View.
Gives me extra MIDI to the O (often from Karma2) for breaks and
riffs etc. inserted whenever.
Gives me the button pounding relief. Use another full size
controller or O keyboard for MIDI.
Today, I would get a KORG padKontrol instead.

Pilgrim John
MV8800 user here,IMO best Hardware sequencer(Albeit perhaps the Fantom G)ever,If only something of this capacity was built into the Oasys I would be very happy...
Easy to use and Quick to get good results,it fits my working method perfectly because I tend to build up my songs using Patterns or sections if you Like,Kind of like the Cue List function in the Tritons,I was a little narked that the Oasys never had the Cue List,so needed some external device to compensate for this and plus I never have really found a decent software system that never suffered crashes or the usual instability.
MV8800 crosses that Soft/Hard gap, being able to use a VGA Monitor and Mouse,to use the Drag and drop methods I was used to with Cubase, but still allowing me to get the stability of Hardware.I wouldn't say it was Slow As Pilgrim has mentioned, not sure what his woking methods are like, but the MV certainly doesn't restrict your workflow,if anything it has speeded mine up,I was sick of Workstations concepts even the Oasys makes sequencing seem like trying to Paint your House through the Letterbox, infact the MV environment if used with a VGA/Mouse combination is the same as using any Software DAW,with its drop down menus, and everything is accessible from the Same screen, and the Buttons on the Device all function in the same way with the Monitor/Mouse so you can still use the MV as a control surface whilst working graphically like in a PC.
Sound engine onboard is not up to much it has some basic Horns and basses, but drum samples are useable,I haven't delved much into the Sampler side of things but its pretty easy to utilise, because I generally use the Oasys sampler(Although you'll need to expand the Memory of the MV to make full use of its capabilities)but couple it with the Oasys and you have an elite sequencer with a superb sound engine.
The MV8800 is not everyone's bag,it depends on your working methods, but its a useful and powerful tool non the less,I am very pleased with what it allows me to achieve.Certainly the best Hardware sequencer I have ever used, and I've used a lot including the Old MPC's and Roland MC50 and a lot of the Korg workstations.

I'll 2nd what Kontrol49 says, the MV8800 has been such a boost to my workflow. The sampling engine is great by the way. The timing and flexibility of the sequencer is what really excites me. Having the Fantom G I can tell you that it's sequencer isn't in the same ball park as the MV. For instance in the MV you can have multiple songs in one project! This is different than it's pattern feature by the way. For instance, say you got some cool inspiration going in a song and suddenly you get a new vibe in the middle of your groove (hasn't happened to you?). With the MV you can just create a new song within your current project using the current elements and see where your new vibe takes you. I know the O does something like this but.. well...
I use the sampling features in the MV as opposed to the O because I can load all my programs on startup with a project template that I have created. My only wish was that it could utilize more memory like the O.
