Rumors of Oasys II?
Moderators: Sharp, X-Trade, Pepperpotty, karmathanever
I don't see oasys disappear in the future and certainly not in pieces from time to time like a M3,and....this way further.
There will be always an oasys.
10 years of research to create this synth and then gone?the name only 'oasys' is a statement in synth world!
No!But certainly a better and new processor in the future and in a new jacket.Like cars, new looks sells good. Not that this synth looks ugly. And a lot of cheaper.
I certainly belief in the new oasys(II)!
And they are not stupid by korg.90 % buy the new II.You buy the I,then you buy the II.

You should interpret nothing by Korg's silence. They only make formal product announcements and never leak information in advance.MauroR wrote:Anyways this silence let me think, these rumors can be true since no one from Korg has said the contrary.
As an example, the general public really new nothing about the M3 until it was announced. The public saw a photo of the M3 about 3 days before the announcement, and that was only because a Korg distributor put the info on their website before they were supposed to (and they got in trouble for it).
Korg could be working on an OASYS 2, or they may never release one. We won't know until an annoucement is made (or never made).

Hiya All
Maybe these are just rumors, However I hope there are not and as i understand it from Todays perspective Korg Is desperately in need of an O2, the reason i iterated before.
I think Daz hit it right on the head
"An Oasys II wouldn't surprise me, and I suspect would probably be forward and backward compatible with the Oasys "Classic", as it would just be freshened hardware running the same OS"
But this "Just be Freshened hardware is No "Just be but in my words a "MUST BE"! WHy? coz simply it 's desprately needed.
This is quite easy folks, when u look at the the facts. Warning this may offend the faint hearted users on here, bt only stating facts people.
I think Most People will agree the Oasys is very far behind hardware wise So dont you think its just a better idea and Suggestion to Just drop the Oasys and all these small updates that people get so excited over and concentrate on building the Oasys 2, but this time with the hardware that at least is current. Better update hardware will give users many options and expandabilty and a host of other possiblities.
I just think its truly a waste of time and resources trying to package something that is not cutting it hardware wise.
reason, We are now in the world or quad cores and near octa cores!! miles more hard drive space and miles more Ram. The current Oasys is veryt very Limited and not to mention the fact that you cant really interface it with a computer and its 2008! Unfortuantely O1 will always be very limited and has Quickly somewhat become a dinosaur in computer hardware terms! sad, but true.
There is just too many great Options out there and the New Kuzweil pc3 is amazing for the price. Good sounds is not the only thing when one is buying a so called workstation. THe Yam's and Rolands are good buys too. SO overall WE users should welcome the idea of an Oasys II. It must needs be so coz Its seems so old hat Hardware wise. IT has aged so quickly, Simple. sorry guys but its the truth!
Im definately in support of an O2 anytime. It's the only way forward and to keep up to date. Anybody????

It has been pointed out previously many times in this forum, that the Music Industry (MI) does not have hardware parity with the computer industry because of the lenth of time it takes to develop a "breakthough" MI product. It takes longer because there are fewer people assigned because there are fewer units sold than in the computer industry. It becomes a matter of good business economics to balance people & resources employed with the money that can be made.universal1 wrote:Hiya All

Having said that, it also has been pointed out that the O is still far ahead of any other machine in the market place (meaning music industry).
Another thing to consider is that just putting more & faster cores in does not neccesarily improve the quality of the sounds coming out. Memory is, of course, a different horse and there are many of us that would love to have more ram to be able to keep all our sounds loaded all the time for instant use, but that could also be solved with a good librarian that lets us over write the sounds we don't like with new sounds that we do.
Hard drive space is yet again a different color horse, which can now be dealt with by a USB drive.
Don't let the marketing hype in the computer world yank your chain. It doesn't always translate directly to a "better" keyboard.
BTW, much of your discussion sounds like you just might be a TROLL here only to sow discontent.
Do you actually own an Oasys?

Ken
I just knew someone was gonna come up with this comment. maybe someones pride has been dented.
Well Ken I can assure u matey im no TROLL.
Infact i was a Oasys76 Owner!!! Unfortuinatley I had to sell my Oasys coz it simply was not cutting it as a workstation , Period!! All sorts of problems and weird noises and glitches occured when recording Audo alongside the midi. WHen the push came to shove the Oasys was basically labouring in its attempt to really deliver. So i was 100% happy to sell it and have no regrets.

What marketing hype??, I think u'd be a fool to not acknowlegde, the tremendous leaps in PC , MAc technology and not to mention the Softrware side of Computers which Hardware manufacturers are still gloating about e.g Oh WOW this synth or this workstation has 500MEgs of sampled sounds etc.. etc.. THis is what i call laughable hype, coz there aint fooling me. Whilst Computer software is always in the Gb's and nearly in the TB league of sounds, So who is following Marketing hype????
"Another thing to consider is that just putting more & faster cores in does not neccesarily improve the quality of the sounds coming out"
Ken the Sound of the Oasys is not in question here, I Know that more cpu power is not gonna make things sound better. Its the whole hardware of the Oasys which is far behind. If it incooperated better hardware , better powerful cpu, faster hard drive, more Ram then the workflow would be much smoother and would be a better Workstation.
This is WHY im really in Support of an O2 coz as much as u may not like it, There is no getting away from the fact that hardware wise the O1 is years behind! Obviously people who have spent al their saving on the O1 are not gonna like this coz they invested heavily in the O1, its understandble for these guys to think that but u know that is Life, sometimes u got to be true to yourself and admit that the Oasys for many reasons is getting outdated very very fast indeed.
so again im in support of an O2. : )

Ok then, this seems to be begging new Questions.
What is the Oasys??
Is it a computer that is dated because it has a Pentium 4 motherboard - and not the latest Core2/4 Mothers??
or,
Is it a keyboard Workstation that competes with all the other current Synth Workstations - XS, G, M3, PC3??
or,
is it all the above??
or,
is it something that cannot be described lol
or,
?????

Why cnt the O be updated, hardware etc
I still fail to see why the O cant be updated, and most of you still think it cant. Its just computer bits, ie mboard, processor, and connectors. Surely a hardware, with software update is very feasble, For those of you that want an O2, go and buy an M3, which I believe is the O2. I dont believe that korg will forsake the founding purchasing members with a new model, without due consideration to backward compatability, this synth yes has software shortfalls, ie the sequencer etc, nothing that cant be corrected as it should be with a later update, and its still the best sounding synth out there!!!! So dont sell the O short. Only time will tell, and I look forward with great anticipation

Hi all. Rob. Keith I'm with you on this. The O can be updated via software. I was kind of finicky about certain aspects of the O, myself at first. I've read both manuals and recieved help on this forum. I feel that I know the keyboard pretty well now. It does everything that I need it to do as it is right now. I live inside the sequencer. I own a studio with all the little virtual instruments, fruity loops, Nuendo and Pro Tools, and fruity loops which is what the kids like to use now-a-days. I prefer the O hands down.
I'm comparing the O to over $20,000 worth of equipment. With all of that said the O works as advertised. When I let people hear my music the first thing that they talk about is how clear it is. Oasys 2 is cool but I really believe it would be called an Oasys 24. W/ Kiefer Sutherland
24 because in my opinion the only real improvement that can be made is for the O to support 24 and 32 bit samples and recording.
In conclusion I'm happy with the O the way it is now. (nothing is perfect)

Since they are out of hardware soon for the current version, a newer version with updated hardware would only be most naturall...
So i guess that it should be downward compatible... But i don't know about upward compatabillity... The new hardware gives some superb options, They could have a gigabit ethernet connection and a remote vst host that allows to controll vst's running on a remote computer (just like controlling receptor from your DAW), even looping OASYS audio through vst effects. (talk about the ultimate workstation).
And they could finally add a good sequencer, something that works much like Ableton live.
It would be another step to perfection, while all instruments and expansions would be compatible for both versions, OASYS 2 would make use of the top of the bill hardware, with 64 bit processing 4 cores CPU and 4 to 16 GB memmory.
I think Korg would be foolish not to make maximum use of their OASYS fillosofy....

Included are some of the new OS features for the XS.
New OS features
We have just confimed in Japan the features for the new OS for the Motif XS which is scheduled for release at the end of June.
Perhaps the most important new feature is the XS will not cut off sounds when switching channels in Mix mode.
So that allows either 16 Voices on 16 MIDI channels or 4 Performances on 4 MIDI channels to be switched without sounds cutting off. BTW, this is 8 more voices than is possible in Live Mode on the Fantom G.
Another frequent request here on the forums was the ability to have 10 key numeric input and another request was to be able to use a USB keyboard or mouse for editing.
We have also confirmed that the new OS will allow you to connect a USB ASCI computer keyboard for editing parameters, calling up different pages and naming in Song/ Pattern , Sampling and Mix modes.
We checked it out and it is pretty cool to be able to use the USB keyboard cursor to move around the screen , then type in values using the numeric keypad. Almost every key on the ASCI keyboard has been assigned. For example the function keys F1-F12 are mapped to function and subfunction keys on the XS so you can call up any page on the XS remotely. Tranport keys are also mapped to the ASCI keyboard so you can basically edit everything in a Song or Pattern without touching the XS itself. In reality, this is a lot quicker than using a USB mouse for editing which was the other option we looked at.
A final consistent request here was for the XS to remember it's password when connected to an ethernet network. This has also been implemented in the new OS.
There are other new features in the new OS , but the three biggest features are :
1) No cutoff of sound in Mix Mode
2) Use of a USB keyboard for editing/ 10 key numeric input and naming
3) Memorization of the XS password on the network
BTW, we also confirmed that a VST3 editor with Media Bay compatiblity is planned for release in the future timed to a newer version of Cubase that allows that further integration. That editor will also new features like a mode for editing drum kits.
Having seen the new OS and gotten a chance to play with it , we think people will be pretty excited once they get their hands on it.
There are a few other things that we are working before the release so please be patient until the end of June.
Thanks for all the input, we think it helped to set the priorities and there will be other OS updates in the future, but we think this one is pretty significant.
