Hello (for all newbies like me)

Post by Rajat »

Hello,

Hello and regards to everybody. I am a newbie in playing synths and in this forum too.

I have recently acquired a KORG TR76. Tilll now, I have'nt played it much because unfortunately I am not good at handling it. I was looking for some friends who can help me in 'configuring' it so that I can get the best out of it. For a start, I am playing only the various sounds available under the keyboards category.

I have a couple of questions.
1. I would like to hear the sound of piano a bit sharper. Can anybody help me please?
2. How to do the 'fill in' for the ARP in the KORG TR?

Thanks in advance.

I will be coming back with my questions here. Hope that is OK with the Admins.

Here's the sound I was referring to in my question 1. I have uploaded a sample here. http://www.sendspace.com/file/nr0kof

Though this sample is played using a Roland XP 50, I am sure we can get this sound out of a KORG TR.

Each Program has some effects associated with it, try dabbling with IFX/MFX settings or change the Master EQ settings for the Program.
2. How to do the 'fill in' for the ARP in the KORG TR?
That's more of an arranger keyboard function, you can't do that with the arp on the Triton.

Hello Daz,

Firstly, thanks a million for taking the time to answer my queries. :D

I am sorry but I am a very very novice user of the Korg TR 76, so requesting you to kindly explain a bit more on the point "try dabbling with IFX/MFX settings or change the Master EQ settings for the Program."

Also, you mentioned with the Korg TR 76's ARP, I can't do the fill in effects? Thats sad because in cheap synths you can do these things. Pardon my ignorance but I thought that this is something that is very basic.

Thanks & regards.

Press menu then go to mfx page on the right side of the screen there are three graphic sliders try turning up the right one.
As for the other thing you should understand the term arranger keyboard and Arpeggio function, The first is for using as one man band keyboard where you control music elements that are called styles. The styles have different variations and fill ins to be controlled in real time.
On the other hand arpeggio function is more used in sequencing or simpler backing on workstations like TR.
You can do fill in but you will have to do some arp programing and it wouldn't be easy.
The last time i checked cheap synths didn't have sampler or pro fx processors built in. :)

Definitely good investment. But you have to learn a lot to use it effieciently. I suggest to buy tutorials CDS @ sudosonic to decrease your learning curve..BTW for how much did you buy?

Rajat,

Seems like we're both new to this. I'll try to help. You will have to describe what you want to do for anyone to help.

1. You have samples on your pc that you want to transfer to the tr76.

2. You want to sample using the tr76 and save them to your SD card.
(this requires the optional EXB-SMPL card) Sampling means you want to record from some other "thing", i.e. a mic, guitar, tuba, trumpet, etc.

3. You want to make some sequences and save them to your SD card to transfer to your pc.

So, depending on which one of the 3 above you want to do, there will be a different answer. If none of those above describe what you want to do then you'll have to describe it in more detail. If one of those does match I think you will find it easier to start a new thread and ask one of those questions. Does this make sense?

Ok, you should have samples like name.kmp and name folder with kmf files, that is korg format. You need a card reader to transfer samples to SD card. After power on insert Sd card in TR and go to media mode find a name.kmp file, press f8 and go to load selected. The sample is now in RAM bank of the TR and to hear it you should go to PROG mode pick a sound, press menu, go to basic osc page, change ROM to RAM and on 001 you should find your sample.
Hope i haven't confuse you.
