Triton LE 61-can wrong model OS version cause damage? Help!

Post by Mojo »

I recently purchased a Triton LE 61 in cosmetically new condition with supposed low hours on eBay. I noticed the previous owner has installed the wrong model TRITON STUDIO - Music Workstation/Sampler OS version 1.0.6. !! It seems to work on the 1.0.6 but occasionally, on some of the programs there is some digital noise and crackling.

Has this version OS 1.0.6 damaged the Triton LE? Also, If I change the OS version to the correct Triton LE 1.5.1 version, will it function properly? Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated!

I am NO expert, but personally I would try flashing with the correct version. I would assume flashing the ROM would be the same as flashing the BIOS on a PC, in that the whole thing is over-written, regardless of what is on there already.

So, I personally would flash to Le 1.5.1, and then perform a full Factory preset PCG re-load.

Others on here might say different. I am just a Korg Triton Le owner 8)

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I installed the correct model/version 1.5.1 as well as did a factory preset. The various keyboard functions seem to run smoother now.

I still get a crackling/popping noise on program Bank-B 80. Does anyone have any idea what might causing this and how to fix it?

I noticed that some sounds could crackle my speakers if it contained very strong bass or even treble frequencies. It may just be overloading whatever you are putting it through.

B80 = Future Syn Pad yes?

Is it a particular note you are playing, low/high?

It sounds fine on mine, but it does depend on what you are plugged into. I myself am plugged into a SB Audigy Platinum on my PC, with Altec Lansing & JBL speakers. Not a set-up to write home about at all, but it does sound good enough for me.

Can you record the sound and save it as an MP3? I will be happy to have a listen and compare with mine.

Hmmm....Bank-B 080 on my LE is named Village Pump. Once I dail up the program there is an immediate pop/crackle and hiss that sounds like a needle on a old scratched vinyl record....even when no notes are played. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

:D :D :D
Nope that is not a problem there, that is an effect of Analogue record, it's supposed to sound like that. If you don't like it just go to MENU fx page and change that effect.

Wow, I never thought that was the sound of the actual factory program. I bought the LE used and I thought something was wrong with it. Thanks for the info!

This discussion saved my sanity. I've already talked to the shop that sold me my shiny new TR for a few weeks ago, thinking that something is wrong.

(Hi, I'm new here. I've been lurking around for a while, ever since I decided to buy a TR61, but haven't posted until now.)

The real irony of the matter is that my TR now does have a problem with a humming headphones jack. :P

Well, the phones output on my keyboard dances cheerfully :)
I'm wondering how it still works, but I get no humming.

Take it to a repair show or fix it yourself.

There is a thread a started recently about opening the damn thing and I wrote how the wiring from the circuit board was very tight.
Or maybe your input is messed up.

My input? :?

Don't see how, considering that the hum starts as soon as I start the TR. But repair shop it is (or will be; they said there's no point in taking it to the shop before Monday) because I still have a warranty.
