100% Kaossilator songs

Post by IngerAlb »

Hey guys, a few months ago I bought one of these little wonder 'pocket synths' because I was convinced the Kaossilator can do a lot more than what some 'people' present in the various videos currently spamming youtube. Needless to say, I was quite impressed by some of its presets - this tiny synth can pack some wicked sounds :) So I thought I'd give something back to Korg for creating Kaossilator, currently the most affordable (and portable) synth around. So I created a 4 song EP using only Kaossilator, entitled "Little Yellow Sound Machine" (1.Yellow Sunrise, 2. Machines At Work, 3. Energon Shot, 4. Lullaby To Sabine). Except for some minor tweaks to the drum tracks (some mild reverb and some panning, volumes), everything was left raw, exactly as it was produced/played by the Kaossilator. No post production, no editing, just 100% pure Kaossilator generated music. So to keep a long story short, this is the link to my project's - TELURICA - MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/teluricaro Listen, download, enjoy! And if you're interested in more songs & info, feel free to visit the official homepage: http://www.telurica.go.ro/ Tnx!

Kossilator Music

Post by pjblues »

I just listened to a couple of the songs you created. Very nice indeed. I am an older musician who just purchased one of these and a Kaoss Pad 3 as well. I am curious did you lay down each track individually or did you combine tracks on the Kaossilator itself? I am thinking of laying down individual tracks in either Logic Pro, Pro Tools, or Ableton Live 7. What in your opinion is the best way to do it?

Thanks.

this is very well done. I'm very impressed :) Goes to show that with a little multitracking, one can really push this machine!

Indeed, I was kind of forced to use a multitrack editor (in my case it was Cool Edit - so really nothing too fancy or brand new) since we all know how limited is the Kaossilator in this department (to me it seems this unit was intended mainly for live - on the fly - usage, not for studio/recording; I hope the future versions will have this covered). Other than that, it's just the Kaossilator - and yes, it can be pushed way further than creating short loops :)

To be honest, I'm very impressed by Korg's strike of genius: they created an extremely affordable synth which is so easy to work with so that even the ppl without any musical training would still be able to create loops & tunes in a matter of minutes. And some presets are quite good (take the theremin for instance - it really gives you a feeling of the real deal, because of the specific way Kaossilator works; I think for the future versions Korg should concentrate more on creating/emulating such sounds that can't be reproduced too well on a normal synth keyboard).

multi Kaosillation, Chinatown

Post by FranzK »

True, kaosillator can do large parts of a track with a multracker...

(which is why the KO Pro will be so awesome just by itself!)

CHINATOWN - This wacky track started as %80 crazy Kaossilating,
and then evolved into something with actual coherent(?)
song structure and words

The video will get more complex for the album release,
but you get the idea.

Also, Kaosillator is great for adding a little "garnish" to tracks
produced mostly by other synths...

I've enjoyed listening to the material here, I really liked the Tellurica stuff and the Chinatown track really works for me - it has that Kaossilator madness but has enough structure to make it a very coherent and enjoyable track. And the video is excellent.

I just joined up so I thought I would post my only (nearly completely) Kaossilator track. It was inspired by a Debussy melody and the fantastic "voice" sound on the Kaossilator. I use the Boss Micr BR digital recorder a lot and this is really a combination of the Kaossilator sounds and the power of that little box. The drum track comes from the on board Boss MBR drum patterns but everything else is Kaossilator. I did record in layers and mix everything on the MBR to get the right balance and panning - all the stereo sounds in the Kaossilator are centred in the mix which doesn't work if you add too many layers of lead instruments.

Thanks Kaossilation for posting this thread,

Currently checking out Yellow Sunrise, very impressive considering you are doing this live!

Sounds very Chemical Bro's which is no bad thing :)

Chill with Debussy is very well done, even the piano section sounded quite realistic!

I also make music with my primary instrument being a Kpro. I've only recently started using it with ableton and recording tabla drum loops to put in songs. https://soundcloud.com/spiritj/s-c-o-y-4

Hope it's OK if I crash your thread.

Me and my brother get together once a week and have a jam on our Kaossilators. He's got a V1 and I've got a V2. We recently added a Mini KP 2 but it doesn't get used much.

Anything half decent at the end of it gets uploaded to SoundCloud.

It's all totally live and improvised. We hardly even communicate as we go along (I'm sure it shows) and that's something we are trying to work on. But we have fun.

Constructive criticism welcome.
