Wow - great suggestions and great enthusiasm from everyone, thanks!

Here are some suggestions about the money side of things.

As you know Chris has entered the style writing competition. The prizes are being funded from the proceeds of "Arranger Secrets". All styles submitted to the competition will become public domain and will be made available to all users for download via the Internet free of charge. In addition, Chris and Darren will be developing profesional styles created from scratch. These will not be free, but I know Chris and Darrent want to make them affordable to everyone who wants them.

My feeling is that I would happily pay about 3 to 5 Euros for occasional specific "one off" styles I want, plus maybe 25 Euros for a collection of say ten styles grouped by theme, artist, or genre. Before I buy I would like to listen to an .MP3 recording demonstrating each of the style variations.

What about other members of the forum? What sort of price structure do you think would be both fair to Chris and Darren, but also would be affordable and good value for you?

Some easy reproduceable, not overloaded and grooving R&B and Smooth Jazz Styles would be fine.
We have enaugh hammered once without any groove.
One exception in the nongroove spectrum of factorystyles of the
named genres is Slow Jam ROLVA7 for ex. and very few KORG
Styles.
To give some orientation: George Duke, Phil Perry and. . .
Hoping for more of those kind.

Hi Bimbadas,

Could you start a new thread with this request, since it's completely off topic? Also please try to give more details to describe the problem. What isn't working?

Hi Rob,
the pricing sounds reasonable. I like the idea of being able to buy individual styles .

Also like the idea of Artist sets.

Also be great if they could give discounts if buying large numbers of individual styles at one time .

The idea of a demo , so that we can hear before we buy is a good one.

Buying online for me is a must. Postage costs to overseas really puts up the price.

If the guys don't have credit card facilities, Pay Pal is an option that might be worth considering.
I used to use it for selling my miniature teddy bears all over the world. It was the only way I could accept international currency. It's also used on Ebay.

best wishes

Rob,
I think your pricing suggestion is fine.
It would be important to be able to download from a site as shipping could be a show stopper.

An Andrew LLoyd Webber collection would be super. I have one from Style Warehose for Tyros and it's neat.

I think it is only fair to pay for the effort these guys put into creating the styles. I am in. The price is fair.

I have already made my request. Modern Indian/Bollywood styles and I can privide a set of music to help.

Sincerely,

Kauser

Sounds like a great idea! I agree with the prices suggested by Rob and with the credit card or PayPal as payment methods. I also think that direct download is the best way to ship, both in terms of time and costs (snail-mail shipment adds to the price!)
Speaking of music genres, I play mainly Soft Jazz and Bossa Nova (I love modern arrangements in a really latin style, like Michael Buble's "Quando quando" or "Wonderful tonight". Strange as it may seem, most arranger keyboards have Bossa Nova styles that sound awful. One exception is the Roland G-70: I love its "Jazz-Bossa" style and would use it all the time.

Me too! Please include great STS's with every style. And at least one short intro/ending.

Kind regards,

+1

I want to add something else if I may, perhaps Chris could also establish a special order category.

What I mean is if someone contacts his website/Chris and says I need X song, well then Chris could charge a one-off fee of say 20 euros + for the one style, I know it sounds expensive but when you can get a professional style for that EXACT song you are looking for, Chris should be rewarded for that extra effort.

I mean if he makes a style for Mustang Sally, for example, the cheaper price is okay because of economies of scale as nearly everyman and his dog will buy a copy, but lets say I throw one at him for a specific Oz Rock song that will MAYBE sell one or 2 more copies than the one I ordered..Do you see what I am saying here?

A "create to order" service, IF he has time of course...

Just a thought,
Dennis

Styles also runnable on PA1X

Post by hmb1963 »

Hi all,

I hope that the newly created styles will also be runnable on PA1X (OS V3) apart from the sound quality loss.
This would increase the circle of potential customers and according to this the yield for the designers.

Since I have switched from Technics to Korg arrangers about 7 years ago I'm searching for good all-purpose Quickstep (52 bpm) and Foxtrot (45 to 48 bpm) styles. Most of the available styles have too much country or big band elements. I'm looking for some simple and realistic (live impression) styles.

Martin

Hi Martin,

Of course the decision is down to Chris and Darren.

But, if the styles were in Pa1x format then people with Pa800/Pa2x probably wouldn't buy them. I need styles for the Pa2x/ Pa800 where the capabilities of GTR mode and fixed NTT make the styles much more usable for me.

Also for the Pa1x format there are already a great number of styles available on Korg's site, and EMC styleworks will save in this format so you can convert from other keyboards. Styleworks will not generate Pa800/Pa2x styles at the moment. Also for the Pa800/Pa2x there are currently very few styles available that make use of the new facilities.

So I started this thread on the Pa800/Pa2x board (and spoke with Chris and Darren on that basis) because I wanted the GTR and fixed NTT mode styles specifically. These will not work on a Pa1x.

Taking your suggestion forward, maybe you could start your own thread on the Pa1x forum to see how much interest there would be in commercially developed Pa1x format styles? Then if there is enough demand, maybe Chris and Darren or someone else will make some styles specific to the Pa1x at a later date.
