Ok this is hypothetical, im just daydreaming.

Korg should do a product that would be the direct competitor of the Clavia Nord Stage, but better.

Suggestion for product name: Korg LIVE

- 61 keys C-C , keybed from M3
- Bombproof Metal construction
- Lightweight, portable
- Organ section with REAL drawbars. Key click, Overdrive, Leslie
- Piano section: acoustic, electric, clavi
- Synth section: pads, poly synth sounds, choirs, strings only (MELLOTRON samples too)
- FAT sounding Lead section: analog style controls, pots NOT sliders, cutoff, resonance etc (could be used for playing synth bass lines too)
- I really dont care if the sounds are modelled or sample based, it should KICK ASS.
- Simple arpeggiator, maybe step sequencer
- SEAMLESS patch changes
- Uncluttered layout with background lights on EVERY controller.
- Excellent quality knobs, pots and sliders
- Simple FX section tailored for live use
- FX loop for using outboard gear (eg guitar pedals etc)
- Simple LCD display that's easy to read, large fonts
- No multi-level menu structure

yeah I was about to say that.

Interestingly, Roland have just announced the JUNO STAGE, tailored for live use. Its got 76 keys though which is a pain cos I wouldnt be able to fit the thing in a boot of a car. Most of us need portability.

I do like 76 keys. Let's you play most piano parts -- good enough for rock & roll at least. Fast weighted keyboard that aren't too heavy... I liked the Roland D-70 for that.

And like the D-70, any synthesizer you buy should include awesome MIDI controller features. The D-70 let you layer 4 onboard tones and an additional 4 external MIDI synthesizers. All mapped, layered, zoned, and whatever else you wanted to include right there on one screen. It was awesome and instantly made it the center of my rig.

Having features like that on the X5 would absolutely rock my world. Even though it's only 5 octave and unweighted, it really does make keyboard as a quick and dirty MIDI controller.

Let's add optional external MIDI control to combos.

One more thing I'll say about keyboards is they all need aftertouch. Polyphonic aftertouch would be even better.

Better mapping for CV controllers. More inputs for CV controllers.

The Nord Stage is almost a perfect organ/piano/synth.
They have priced it that way too.

Something with drawbars, samples, oscillators, with more filters, knobs, sliders, effects and MIDI control in the X5-sized package with aftertouch would do the same thing even better.

More graphical interfaces are not important when the physical interface is easily available. The Waldorf XTk is an awesome synth with only 2 line LCD.

Mmmmm, how about a perfect vocoder? Always like them so much. This is the reason I bought a R3.

I do like 76 keys.

I dont. It wont fit in my cars trunk. Ideally Id love to see a package thats not larger/heavier than a bass guitar in a gigbag.

Most of us dont have roadies, we have to set up and break down da gear on our own.
