Annoying organ click

Post by gazmondo »

Hi All,

Whenever I set up an organ sound in a combo - I get an annoying click if I hit the keys over a certain velocity? Does anybody else experience this or have a solution please?

Many thanks

I think you might be hearing the famous Hammond B3 Click, (precussion) that is actually programmed in, and very much desired in certain instances.
I've always enjoyed it personally, but I grew up hearing it quite a lot.
You might try adjusting the velocity sensitivity.
Good luck.

Thanks Stephen

It's not the hammond click - it's something different. If I play A023 in programs the click is not present no matter how hard I hit the keys, but if I go to combi A000 and set the instrument to A023 it's instantly there. It's pretty annoying and I get unfavourable comments about it at gigs. Can you help?

Thanks again

I hear it.
No clue what it is, I soloed the timbre after loading into Combi A000, and there it was, so I started going through all the menu parameters, but found nothing that really solves the problem.
I was thinking it might have to do with the effects since it sounds so different in that combi, so I tried a different Combi, and the problem persisted.
This might warrant a call to Korg.
I can see why this is an issue, very annoying.
Sorry I wasn't more help, good luck.

Thanks for looking into this Stephen - at least I know it's not just my keyboard. I'll email Korg.

(Sorry for the delay in saying thanks - I haven't had the chance to come back here for a while)

Check the IFX and MFX settings in Combi A000, and you will find that the IFX EQ emphasizes the HIGH frequency band (3.2kHz-18kHz), and the MFX reverb returns a lot, which makes the BX3 click noise very striking. That should be the cause.

Thanks clay, but the IFX and MFX are all naturally switched off in A000 aren't they? So they can't be influencing the sound?

If you go into A000 and change the instrument to A023 without changing anything else you'll see what I mean - sorry if I'm being thick.

Well, the original Combi A000(Stereophonic Keys) DOES have it's own IFX and MFX settings. The most "empty" combi is D127, even though it has drums etc.

Sorry Clay, my mistake - I meant to say C127 Init Combination - I put A000 by mistake as I didn't have my TR next to me when posting.

If you go into C127 and change the instrument to A023 then you get the click I'm referring to.

Thanks/apologies

That noise belongs to Multisample ROM 027: E.Organ Perc3. It becomes very soft when IFX Rotary Speaker is used. That's why you woundn't notice it in Program A023. Once you turn off the Rotary Speaker effect, it will sound sharp again.

Thanks Clay - I went into C127 and changed the voice to A023. I then copied the IFX (Rotary speaker) and master FX from A023. I then changed the Bus on the voice to IFX and the click disappeared. I've done this across all my custom combis that use A023. Thanks again - this problem was driving me up the wall.

It still seems a bit odd that this click should be there at high velocities - it definitely sounds like a fault.
