PROBLEM with Brass & Reed model, acting strange??

Post by krazy78 »

Recently I've been having problems with this on the TEX, it only happens
in Brass & Reed model, P1 basic edit, OSC 1. I cannot select different instrument types eg. Brass 1 ,Brass 2, Sax 1, Sax 2 etc.
The timbre stays the same & doesnt change while i scroll through
Inst Types. BUT while im selecting them, the keyboard goes out of tune.

The wierd thing is i can load moss programs & they sound fine, but when i edit P1 OSC 1 , same thing.

Its running latest OS, Ive tried power off/on , load moss factory peset, still the same, could this be a bug???
Has this ever happened to anyone???

I see that you also own a Triton Pro.

Have you tried installing the EXB-MOSS on that and see how it goes?

So if i got this issue right your problem goes like this.

You have a moss sound that you would like to edit and it is based on double oscilator of Reed Model or Brass Model.

Reed Model
You go to Osc 1 basic set up (there is no Osc 2 since Reed Model consumes a double oscilator) and when you highlight the Instrument Type and select various types you don't hear any changes. This happens also to me and to other people i know that own Extreme and Moss. Try to select a different instrument type and then go to another page of the menu. Hit Compare to see if the currently edited sound has any differences than the original. Remember to navigate to a different sub menu or to de-higlight the instrument type. You will see that you will be able to sense the difference soundwise. Try to save the new edited program to a spare F Bank location and then switch between those two programs (Original and Edited) to see if they are the same or not. I think that you will see that the programs differ now.

Brass Model
You do exactly the same but apart from not hearing any changes you also come to a detuning issue. I believe that the "detuning problem" is more intense to this Brass Model. Try different instrument types until you hear the detuning. Save the program and do some resets (meaning navigate to different programs or change between banks or even modes (from program to combi and back)). Then go and switch between original and edited programs. What do you hear? Is the sound different? What about the detuning? Is it still there? If yes check that the Frequency offset is set to 0.00Hz. I assume that detune settings of the program are at null point, also that the scale is set at equal temp and Transpose to 0.

What i think is that Extreme's OS which is different than the ones of Triton Classic and Studio causes that. I don't think that there is a problem on your Extreme or Moss as long as following my instructions you can listen to the changes and the detuning getting back to normal.

Let me know if you need anything else

Thanks for your reply korg_nikos

That is exactly as you explained it, saving it & then re-editing seems to work, also when i load sounds, it sounds as it should.
BUT this is a pain in the @#$% , its gonna take twice longer to achieve something that is so simple on TC

I didnt know other prople are experiencing the same problem on the TEX with MOSS, i suppose this is a software bug that got forgotten. I wonder why this was'nt fixed in the last OS update

I would recommend to keep this thread up so people that own TEX+Moss could re-confirm and let us know if they have more clues on that.

Cheers

I have never had a Triton Classic or Studio with an EXB MOSS to check what happens in this case so i rely on your experience.

It is weird indeed that the Classic has no such issues with Moss Board as you specify while Extreme has. Perhaps this is due to the OS but considering the fact that Extreme was introduced 5 years later it should not have those issues.

Could it be (if not OS) a slower Processing Response due to the fact that Processor of the Extreme is slower, either it is the same but has to process more data at the same time? I don't know what to assume.

Does anybody know what happens on Triton Studio in this case?

Thanks in advance

The opinion on this is this:
I dont know technical words or why it is like that but i've checked:
MOSS on EXTREME, STUDIO and KARMA...everywhere the same, in REED
and few other MODELS when you change OSC you have to actually SAVE
and reselect the SOUND to hear the difference.
T funny thing is that PROPHECY and Z1 do the same, exactly.
There is no need for tests, checks prolonging this and anything else, it is
checked by me, confirmed by KORG 2 and a half years ago and it stays
as it is. Why they didnt do nothing, i dont know.
I did it 2 and a half years ago with a KORG person on the phone, at the
time i had 3 diff mashines in front of me, all did the same thing.
Then later on i checked Z1 and EXTREME and it was same thing!

Now that sounds more logic than the fact that this happened only to extreme.

Thanks Nedim

Just to say...

you don't need to save the sound...just edit then hit compare to return to initial settings then hit compare again and the changes are there...

Hi there,

Trinity V3 (with Moss board) doesn't suffer the symptoms.

Regardless of which way I try to change the "Inst. Types" of Brass or Reed, be it with the jog dial, up/down cursor buttons, or with your finger on the menu, it works as it should. It cuts out, of course, when you switch, but that's expected.

No detuning problems during changes either.
