Thought this was odd...

Post by Synthoid »

I read this over on the Karma Labs forum:

"Dear Stephen,
may I hijack this thread and kindly ask you to reprogram your old Korg Karma programs and combinations for the M3. The present ones just don't show what karma is capable off. I would pay for the same programs with the "original" karmafied sounds. Those on the M3 are nowhere near what karma was doing on the old red beauty. If you think that I'm wrong just hit A000 on M3 and listen to what karma does on that piano. It sounds worse than what an ordinary arpeggio would do. And at this point I remember how good the piano (a really bad sampled one) sounded by activating aftertouch on the karma keyboard. Sorry for the complain or rant. I just needed to say it."

I remember playing the original Karma workstation several years ago and not being overwhelmed with it. Some of the sounds and arps were nice but nothing even close to the M3.

Opinions?

I think Stephen has done more than enough excellent programming for the M3 and Karma. This guy needs to get off the computer and reprogram it himself.
Current Korg Lineup: Kronos 61, Oasys 76 · M3-61/RADIAS · Trinity Plus/HDR · 01/WFD · 01R/W · X3R · M3R · Wavestation EX · Wavestation SR · Triton Rack/MOSS · Z1EX · TR-Rack · Karma · D3200 · iM1 · iWavestation · iMono/Poly
Other Synths: Berhinger Deepmind 12 · iProphet · Moog Model D

That particular patch was one of my faves too, the one where it did a nice gliss with aftertouch, and wished it was one of the GE's in the M3. I also requested the same concern to Stephen too.
I'm sure that Stephen can find a way to incorporate that particular piano GE, or any or all of the GE's from original Karma into the M3.
You just never know...

I also agree that some of the red karma combi's were truly amazing.

Having owned red Karma and Oasys and now m3-m it is interesting to note that the programming of red karma really was ahead of it's time with some fascinating sonic movement and particularly beautiful motion synth work.

Consequently I would love some of these to be reincarnated - but then they are I believe working on the chemistry (and reincarnation??) stuff to get these converted.

A lot of combi's on M3 I find very mechanical and uninspiring.

The "O" has the advantage of it's supreme quality and clarity of sound where GE's jovially, almost visibly, skip and dance in and around the geographical stereo spectrum.

It really depends on the type of music you play. I write a lot of Trance and Electronica music, so some of the "mechanical" combis are very inspiring (after tweaking of course).

Maybe Korg will release another bank of combinations sometime in the next 6-12 months.
