HELP KORG ZERO 4 FIRE WIRE CUTS OUT

Post by shawn benjamin »

Hello,

I purchased a korg zero about 6 months ago. I love it. But I'm having a recurring issue and I have tried everything to fix it with no luck.

I have a very simple set up I use the korg zero 4 in audio mode connected by fire wire to my pc which is running tractor in external mixer mode.

What happens is I play using the mixer without incident and then out of nowhere I seem to lose the fire wire connection (it's as if the fire wire cable was pulled out but the the fire wire plug is still in) and I get a high pitched buzz out of my speakers. I can adjust the volume of this buzz once it starts using the volume control on the mixer. If I shut down the mixer and turn it back on the connection is reestablished and I can continue.

Is this a vista problem?
A firewire problem?
or something I have missed?

I Have an
Asus PC running windows vista it's about 5 months old
With a duo core processor
it's about 5 months old
the lap top came with a port to plug in the fire wire
3 gigs of ram
no anti virus software or other unnecessary programs running
and all my software and hardware has been updated
any help would be great.

any help would be great.

it could be an issue with the firewire turning off

if you go in and change the energystar settings to be always on it might solve the issue

some times if the computer "feels" that it can turn something off to save power it will

so just make sure everything is set to always on and maybe google search "firewire disconnecting issues"

I may have figured out. After reading through a lot of forums I tried disabling the dvd drive while playing and so far no cut outs.

yeah, thats what i was going to suggest. firewire and wireless adapters don't play nice.

this is dumb, but its the way things work.

Still having this problem after 2 years. I'm fine with no more firmware updates, but give us a glitch free Windows 7 driver. That would alleviate so many problems with this mixer that it might even make it show capable rather than just an expensive toy for home.

I agree... i would never take this out as it continuosly releases that loud pitched noise after a while

the worst thing is korg seem to ignore the problen...... my zero 8 was even sent back to korg and they sent it back saying theres nothing wrong with it.

ive seen enough complaints on the net proving that this is not an isolated incident

i own 4 korg products and this is the last one ill ever buy

I have narrowed my issues down to faulty grounds/power at venues. i actually got a shock when hooking up my video component cables to the club system to run video. after doing some research and digging online found it to be an issue with the ground at the venue. i will be trying a few things to solve the problem for sue this week when i'm there. it only seems to happen as much at this one club and its only happened a few times at private parties at hotels/halls etc.

well it happened again at a different location. the high pitched sound wasn't as loud and i had to restart the mixer in order for the firewire connection to re-establish. I did notice a spike in latency when this happened but not sure what caused it. i had everything plugged in to the same 12 outlet power strip on my end so no clue? this is getting to be a pain in the ass but i guess korg doesn't care about their customers.
