Well, my beloved DW-8000 is now with almost 20 years of use and I’m starting to get anxious about the fact it can die for no reason anytime soon…
I was reading some reviews for the Korg R-3 and the info that it comes with the same waveforms from the DW made my mind start to think about getting one to program my DW lead sounds into.
Is that possible?
May I achieve the same structure from the DW with the R-3 and make the same patches with?
DW-8000 inside R-3?

Only one of the two oscillators has the DWGS waveforms, so you'd have to use two timbres for your dual osc patches (except those that use saw/square/triangle/sine on the second oscillator). That reduces you to 4 voice polyphony and any unison patches would be 4-voice unison.dalpozlead wrote:May I achieve the same structure from the DW with the R-3 and make the same patches with?
Other than that, the R3 can probably get pretty close. The biggest issue will probably be that the filters on the two synths don't sound exactly the same (DW filters are real analog after all).
If you can get the R3 at a dealer with a liberal return policy then you could try it at home and see what you think.

It's been a long time since I had a DW8000 but I do remember it very fondly! I did some testing of the DWGS and ADSR and was able to get some (what I think are) very close to original patches. I don't think there is a way to directly port the sounds, but just by matching the waveform and the ADSR, you should be able to get close.

Craig,
No kidding...mine is still clicking along too, and I only replaced the battery 1 time! Truly an elegant piece of gear. I remember purchasing mine, and I think the M1 was coming out soon, and people laughed because I had those two little red numbers, one slider, no sequencer, and that little knob kept coming off the joystick (I never lost it though!). However, program a good lead and get someone impressed, then hit the UNISON button and the laughter stopped.
But what I meant to say, did you ever get the Angel City board and patches? Excellent addition, let me know if you want to share ideas sometime,
Graham

During a synth jam my friend was asking "what was that guitar sound", this synth is very underrated which is good because I see them sell for dirt cheap. I like this better than the juno 106 I had
