USB MIDI Noise

Post by shaka40 »

Hey guys, has anybody else experienced noise when the USB MIDI driver is connected and active? The noise is only present when the USB midi driver is active, and the noise is only transmitted through the main 1/4" outputs (it is not present in the headphones). Also, the noise is NOT dependent on the master volume; it is present even when the volume is all the way down. I would describe the noise as a ticking, static-like sound; it is not very loud, but it is noticeable and it ruins my recordings as I bounce from midi tracks to audio in my software DAW :x . I've already tried replacing the USB cable. Is this a common problem? Is there anything that can be done :? ?

It coud be:
-drivers for midi-usb cable
-bad cable
-bad midi conn on your keyboard

But it's probably drivers...

Are you running a laptop? If so, try unplugging it from the wall and just running on battery power. Another thing I've heard about is a filter that connects from your audio out to whatever destination. I haven't got around to getting one yet as I have a similar problem. Apparently they are sold at The Source (in Canada) or any Radio Shack type of establishment.

Hey guys, here's the latest: I have discovered that the TR may not be exclusively to blame for the noise. The noise is only present when I have both the TR AND my other keyboard hooked up to the laptop's USB ports at the same time :( . As soon as I unplug either one of them, the noise stops.

I've updated the MIDI drivers for both keyboards with no luck. I've also tried unplugging the Laptop with no luck. With this said, I'm convinced it's some type of groundlooping or interference issue with the way my rig is hooked up. I say this because I have the TR's outputs hooked up into the inputs of the other keyboard, and I've noticed that 1)the noise seems to go away when I unplug the TR from the other keyboard's inputs, and 2) the noise isn't present in the TR's headphone output, so it's only being generated from the outputs that are connected to the other keyboard.

try grounding the TR it has a screw on its back panel. put any wire there to the floor.
What exactly do you want to do with 2 USB connected boards? For sampling it is not necessary. For studio use also not necessary, for live performance also not. What is the target?
