hi everyone, a new member here.

I'm david and i live in brighton in the South east of the Uk

I've had my Korg pa1x for about 8 months now ( i was a Tyros 2 man!) but now completely converted....afterall how can you beat the orchestral sounds and strings!!!!

:D Anyway wondered if there is anyone out there doing what i do with the Korg. I am a classical concert pianist ( or rather I should say i was until a nasty car accident a few years ago). so now i play all the difficult classical stuff on a Roland digital piano (or korg when i can scroungeone!) but i use the Pa1x to create all the orchestral backings for example have just given a concert and played the last movement of beethovens first piano concerto no 1.

Was a great experience playying in all the different orchestral sounds track by track on the Pa1x and listening to it grow and then playing the digi piano alongside it. it was also very challenging and also frustrating......as imagine you have already put in 9 tracks including french horn, 3 different strings, oboe etc, used track one three times because you only need flute for two bars etc and you haven't got enough tracks and then you forget which trach you timpani was on and erase it!!!!

Also did the first ever (at least i think it was the first ever world first of a piano sonata for 2 pianos on my own....mozart sonata in d major KV488. recorded in one part on the korg and played the other part live.....that was tricky as if i missed a bar the korg just carried on relentlessly!!!!

please don't think I'm a geek, i do also play, pop, show stuff, jazz and ragtime at these concerts as well, but i must confess the thrill of putting together classical backings is a bit like a drug!!!!!

So anyone out there doing similar????

thanks for reading

Hello David and welcome to the forums.

What you're doing sounds extremely interesting. I've never got into any full classical orchestrations but it would be great to hear what you're doing. Do you have any recordings?

I'm not sure why you would worry that we would think you're a geek. Music is an amazing thing and any genre brings pleasure. What's important is that you're enjoying your playing and your music - which it sounds like you are.
Cheers

Dave

David,
Glad to hear you are enjoying your Korg. I'm pretty much a 70's music type of Guy but am starting to enjoy more and more Classical as I'm getting older. I noticed a recent post from Sharp (the owner of this site) that he's tired of most modern music with its over equalised/compressed/boosted and plastic sound. I think there is a swing back to something with a bit of real emotion in it. I mostly play modern gospel music at church but I like to fiddle with/write music that would be closer to classical in style.
Interesting that you don't tend to use the Pa1x piano much. I've done quite a bit of fine tuning of the Korg Pianos including the Grand Touch down load available from Korg. You do need a hard drive to install it. If you want a copy - let me know.
Keep on with what your doing - and dont forget to backup as you go - it can save a lot of hair-pulling.
Best regards,
John
