Loading factory styles from Set's

Over the past week I've added some new styles to the factory banks and saved them to my default set. However I noticed that when loading the set it doesn't load the factory banks by default. I have to select each individual bank from the style folder in the set.

The problem can be replicated by performing the following steps (don't hold me responsible for losing any data if you try this ) Save your data first.

- Turn off the factory style and pad protection in the disk preferences
- Save the 8/16 beat factory bank (bank01.sty) to a set file.
- From the disk erase menu delete the style bank in SSD at the bank level
- Reload the set where the style bank was saved from disk
- Check the styles in 8/16 beat (bank 1) and they're not there.

- To load them you have to decend into the style folder in the set and load each bank individually.

Is this a "feature" or am I doing something wrong? I have the factory protection off and can load the banks individually so don't think it's a protection issue.

If this is a bug does anyone know if this behaviour is similar on the PA2X?

Hi Dave,

I don't recommend modifying factory resources for many reasons. I think you have hit on problem which is to do with compression and memory allocation in the factory SSD space, and I think your modifications do not fit. Also there is no satisfactory back up and restore mechanism.

Try saving the modified style bank to one of the Direct HD banks.
Can you see and load the individual styles via the Direct HD bank?

If it works OK with Direct HD, stay with this. You can back up and restore Direct HD styles without any problems, so long as you avoid using user sounds.

You may have to reload the Factory MR to restore the factory bank that has become corrupted.

An no, I won't take any chance to do what you've done on my Pa2x. It is known to be risky. Instead all my styles are saved in Favorite banks, which is the Pa2x equivalent of the Direct HD banks on the Pa1x.

I'm already using the DirectHD banks but there's so many unused slots in the factory banks it seems to make sense to use them. This allows me to keep custom styles of a similar genre in the same locations.

I don't think it's a memory allocation problem as I can get the banks to load fine one by one just not all at once when loading the set. It's more likely a coding bug that ignores the banks when loading all styles in a set.

It's not a major deal as I usually use only one main set for all of the styles so I don't need to keep loading different banks of sets all the time. I just have to remember to save and load properly to work around the issue when modifying factory banks.

So no need to reload the resources (thankfully) as I'm able to retrieve the data without issue and the info hasn't actually become corrupted. (Just wanted to make sure I was clear in my post about people trying this as it involves deleting data ).

I wanted to raise some awareness in case this is an issue that could still be effecting the PA2X too. Perhaps Paolo might want to check.

Sounds interesting about the favourite banks. I've seen a fair bit of reference to them in the PA2X forum. It makes sense now you've mentioned that they're the equivalent of the DirectHD banks.

Hi Dave,

Just to clarify about the favorite banks on the Pa2x. There are 10 banks initially labelled Favorite01 to Favorite10. Each bank can be renamed to whatever bank name you wish, and each bank can contain up to 32 styles. Hence there is storage for up to 320 user styles in "Favorites" as well as another 96 locations spread across User1, User2 and User3.

All of these storage locations are in the expanded SSD flash memory device on the Pa2x, and there is no direct access style storage available on HD.

That sounds brilliant Rob. Especially as you can rename them to anything you like. I'm sure this makes building style sets far more intuitive.
