Worse After Service!!!

Post by Ultimate Dj »

Hey,
Just got my Oasys back from getting it serviced. They completely wipped out my whole hard drive and basically started the O from new. He said that it was very full uv(of) dust and that was a main cause for the lock ups..etc So I'm like Great! YAYA! I get Oasys back!!!! And its fixed!!! :D

But then I play with it the first day no problems. The second day one lock up. Kinda disappointed but maybe it was just a fluke. The third day, Three lock ups (freezes) and one of times I turn it on, THERES NO VOLUME!!!! I mean through the speakers or the Headphones theres no sound! :x :x
So you can imagine I'm pretty pissed! :x
Now I dnt know what to do. Korg tells me Bring it back in. And have the guy call John Carlo. Anybody heard of him? :? But I'm leaving and I dont have any more time. And if I take it back in what are they gonna do thats different? or are they just gonna make it worse? Again? :x

sorry just venting....all done now! for today! :D

First, why did your serviceman wipe the hard drive? 'This sounds like the cause of your current problems.

Second, what OS does it say, when you boot up? Is it back up to 1.3.1?

Well obviously he must have thought it would fix it. I thought it would as well. Just to make sure there were no errors in the HD. Why would you think thats the cause of ma problems? He was in contact with Korg and it seemed like the common thing to do.

Yeah, the disks we got from Korg were the 1.3.1 Reboot CDs. So its still the 1.3.1.

thanks

Because during some of my "messing around" with OS's, I managed to screw up performance by upgrading to a new OS, without doing the full dot upgrade, first.

When you say that you have the 1.3.1 reboot discs, is that the 4 disc set? The only 4 disc sets I have are 1.0 and 1.1. (but I know there are newer ones, like 1.2).

If he said that the problems were due to dust, he's a complete idiot and I would not take anything back to him for repairs.

Good luck.

Really? It does kinda make sense that the dust acts like a blanket and makes all the components over heat. His name is Alex. And he told me that he was one of the first people to test and help design the Oasys. He seemed to know what he was talking about but.....I'm in Colorado now and taking it to someone else. And have almost everything replaced!!! :D Like the motherboard, hard drive, some buttons...ect. So I'm really hoping thats gonna help it and fix the problem! :D

Hey thanks for the suggestion! I already have somebody that is gonna take care of it in Golden that Korg suggested. Next time I need (hopefully there won't be another time :D ) service though I'll try to get it that homey.
I'm gonna almost get it out, either today or tomorrow!!!!YAYAYAYA :D :D :D  FINALLY!!! But the mother board got replaced with the hard drive then there was no sound coming from it every other time you turned it on so I now get the Sound card replaced along with some buttons that would stick! So hopefully that'll do it and I'll be up and runnning soon enough! :D
Thanks guys for your help!

Just a small suggestion, but you could easily keep the oasys clean dustwise,by cleaning it out yourself periodically, its not like you have to dismantle the whole thing to get into the main hub..you can easily lift the main lid and give it a hoover out now and then only a couple of screws either side of the unit to gain access.

I would have thought the Dust accumulating on the cooling fan would not allow it to work at maximum cooling efficency and perhaps not cooling the CPU enough and maybe causing the thing to lock up or other components to overheat,I used to have a PC which had this problem, after fitting a better cooling fan and keeping it clean of dust and grime it worked with no problems, sounds like your Oasys has been totally fried if your M/B and other things needed replacing?

Just as a general routine maintenance I service my keyboards periodically, removing any dust and deposits built up inside, normally once every 12-18 months never had any problems with any musical device I owned.
