pa800 vs the yamaha psr or700

Post by baybars »

Was talking to a salesman on which KB to buy between the pa800 or the pa2x pro, and he replied neither as yamaha came out a few months after the pa2x pro with the" OR 700" that does everything that the pa2x can do at 1/2 the price.
Anyone here have any input on this? I've always thought that these 2 korgs were closer to the tyros2 which is much more expensive . Mind you this store does deal mainly with yamahas..so they might be steering me away from korgs. Thanks in advance.

i dont think the dealer is a person that can anything about KB,s.
First , KORG is KORG, YAMAHA is YAMAHA, TESTE IS yor teste.
He must be out of bussines now, So my opnion dont buy from him.
OR 700 is great, But is a KB , PA2X is a Workstation.
Remember that.

you can not compare these kb.
700Or is oriental with styles and sounds that can cover the middel eastern music. NO samplings option. sounds are ok, but are NOT powerfull as pa.

pa 800 and pa2x can cover almost al kind of music generes. you have the samplings option to load oriental drum kits, sounds. pa is more prof in my opnion comparing with psr series
my 2 cents

Hi guys

My lovely wife recently bought me a Yamaha PSR-S900 (the cut-down Tyros 2) and it is great. I love the sounds - some of the "Super-articulation" sounds are really superb. But here is the reality:-

Whilst Yam makes good gear, Korg have led, and still lead, the Arranger Keyboard products by millions of miles.
The Yam styles are weak (some nice intros & endings, but that's it!!) and extra styles are expensive ($6 EACH!!!).

Imagine if we had to pay that for our authentic and brilliant Korg styles!! (Another big "THANKS" to Korg)

I wouldn't go as far as to say that the PSR-S700/900 is a toy, but it is not a professional keyboard (although a lot of fun).

So my feedback to this topic is:-
PA800 if you are serious about quality, performance, authenticity
Yam PSR-S700 for fun at home.
Go play them both and you will see....

Hey, remember - it's just my opinion

Cheers

Pete :D

I have had the Yamaha T2 (it's does more than the ones you ask about) and now the PA2XPRO...

No decision...get the PA2XPRO or PA800 if 61 keys is OK. It's a lot more fnction and more programmable. Also, many other things. The sound is much more LIVE than CD like also....

But, it would be best for you to try both out then decide for yourself as many do prefer he Yamaha also?

For me it's the Korg.

I played Korg PA 800 a year's time and tried out Psr S 900. Now I am a Yamaha man. Korg is probably a more sophisticated keyborad, but it is to continental for my taste and in fact it missing Yamahas sweet and cool sound that takes your breath away. And last but not least; here in Scandinavia, we like the Scandinavian rhythms on the Yamaha. They are great and they are missing entirely in Korg. Im about to look at the new Tyros 3 You can see and hear it here

Funny, I was yesterday in a store and played on with the PSR700 OR and I thought it was funny and interesting.

As to the sounds, I would not pay more than $500,= for the machine. There are maybe like 50 Oriental sounds added, easy accessible. I liked this function: you have user banks with strings, organs, piano etc but also a ORIENTAL button. Cool feature.

Also for the styles, you have pop, latin, but also ARABIC, IRANIAN, AFGHAN and TURKISH. However, they forgot to add SERBIAN/MACEDONIAN/BULGARIAN....a shame if you ask me.

The sounding is typically "cheap". It sounds ok, but it is 1000 miles away from the PA styles you can find.

I think you can compare it with the PA50 (do not even think of mentioning the PA800!). But it is too expensive for what it offers.

The sounds overall (oriental) are good, not bad, some perfect, but not overwhelming enough. All the styles have not a good overall sound to be used in live gigs.

A typical easy home use keyboard :)

Stick to the PA :)
