problem with korg 1xpro

Post by milo »

Hi guys, i have a problem with my pa1xpro. I have bought it this week and it is used. Now the problem is that when i use user sounds or user styles i get by a few keys a strange sound, it is like a pc sound. And when i use standard sounds, i get perfect sound.

Does my korg got a problem or am i doing something not good??

I updated the SO version 3.01. So that can not be the problem i think..

Hi,

From what you describe, it sounds like faulty sample RAM. It is a user option to fit these under cover beneath the PA1x. Many people bought the wrong chips that are too slow for the Pa1x. I suggest that in the first instance you buy a new set since it will only cost $15 or so. There were a number of suppliers recommended in earlier posts so do a search on teh forumfor "sample RAM".

You should also check out whether the problem is with the way the existing user sounds were saved. Maybe the Keyboards OK but the previous user did something a little strange with the sounds in question.
Try saving your own user sound and see if the problem is still there.
Go to sound Mode, Menu, Choose a standard factory sound, maybe change a parameter or two on say the main page, use the dropdown menu and save (write) it to a user location and see if it works.

John

Hi Milo

Yes, try Reuben's suggestion first...

Sorry if this a silly question, but I assume you did load the 3.00 Resources too.
Also, did you use the "Intro 1" button for the first OS 3.01 diskette?

Are the USER sounds and styles yours or from the original owner? I strongly recommend that you try using USER data from the forum download area or from the korgpa website to make sure that they work ok first.

Let us know how you get on....

Cheers

Try this:

Can you make ANY user sound such as one of Reuben's (John's) pianos play back correctly?

If you cant, and a Reuben piano is distorted when you play it back, then the problem is that you have faulty sample RAM fitted to your Pa1x, that has too slow an access time. It needs to be changed for faster devices, I think better than 80 nS.

Hii people,

First of all, thanks for your help, you are great guys.

I know the problem now, it was with ram. The set i tried was 32 Mb, but my pa1xpro has 16 Mb ram, so that was the problem. I can only use 16 mb sets.

I didn't knew this because i have my xpro for like 2 weeks

It is true that each slot will work with maximum 16 Mb memory, making a total of 32 Mb usable memory if both slots are populated.

It will also work with a single 32 Mb SIMM in each slot if the RAM is 80 nS access time or better. But you will only be able to access the first half the memory (ie it will only give you 16 Mb). You could fit two.

The reason your 32 Mb modules did not work is because their access time is too slow, not because they were "too big".

hey,

I don't understand you well..

What you mean with acces time??
And are saying that i can use 32 mb sets or not?
IF i can't use the 32 mb set, can i make a 16mb set of the 32 mb set?? For the styles that i want of the set..

I am not understanding good how the ram works...i am beginner

OK we were talking at cross purposes - I now understand you.

Yes your Pa1x has only 16 Mb sample RAM fitted so you can only use .SET files whose user sound samples will fit in 16 Mb at the moment.

But, you can get another 16 Mb sample RAM SIMM module to expand your Pa1x to 32 Mb. It only costs a few Euros. It fits underneath the keyboard inside the expansion slot. If you can't get a 16 Mb SIMM then you can also use a 32 Mb SIMM so long as it has access time 80 nS or faster. Of course you will only use half of it.

hi,

I have searched on the internet for the ram.
I found "EDO RAM" 72 pin. Someone said he used this ram module for his pa1xpro and it works perfect. DO you got any experience with this...?

these EDO RAM" 72 pin are very cheap...for like 5 euro.

You need very specific RAM modules to make sure they will work. This guy can be relied on to get you the right ones:
