Korg Zero 4 + Traktor Studio 3.3 - Random Latency

Post by alakenio »

Hey All,

I've made the move from Traktor Scratch to Traktor Studio 3.3 over the past couple of weeks and for the most part, it's been pain free.

However, I have had a recurring issue with the Korg Zero 4 which hasn't
been reported in the NI or Korg forums previously. Once in a while the latency will randomly increase where the Traktor Vinyls are unusable - there's at least a half-a-second delay.

The only way to get rid of the latency is to change the sample rate of the Zero 4 in the Audio Preferences or to restart Traktor. Changing the sample on the fly is possible but audio drops out in order for the Core Audio driver to reinitialize.

Has anyone else come across this issue?

I'm using the current version of Traktor Studio 3.3 with a 2Ghz Macbook with 2Gb ram, and OSX 10.4.11.
The Korg Zero 4 has the 1.5 Firmware update installed.

same with ableton live

Hi

I have almost the same hardware setup, but using ableton live. However, I have the same problem:
Once in a while the latency will randomly increase where the Traktor Vinyls are unusable - there's at least a half-a-second delay.
to be more precise, when starting ableton live, with the korg plugged in thru firewire, i have a ~50% chance of low latency. I haven't measured it yet, but the latency always seems to be the same amount off if it happens. So it happens randomly, but when it happens, it seems to be always the same. once it's running fine, i haven't seen it "drop back to low latencies" while playing. I've seen other weird effects (noise, distortion) pop in while playing, but not the latency.

restarting ableton live helps. changing the "audio input" in the audio preferences (eg from korg to internal speakers and back again) helps. as you say, changing the resolution helps, both in ableton and in the audio/midi settings of the mac. i think in general you could say "giving the firewire driver a kick" helps. So I'm thinking it might be a macbook / firewire audio driver problem.

Anyone else ?

thanks,
*-pike

there is actually a lot of talk about random latency in apples firewire driver. but it's all a year old. 10.4.11 was released in november 2007 and no news since. I'm not sure if we're still talking about the same issue.

With 10.4.11, /System/Library/Extensions/AppleFWaudio.kext was upgraded to 2.2.0, it seems.
