I'm interested in this:

if one has let's say 50 multisamples already saved as .ksc, which he loads to RAM every time at boot up, will those expansions load next to initial multisamples and thus preserve their assignments in programs or they will load in some other fashion? Maybe they don't interrupt user multisamples at all?

Does user have to take care of order of loading - first user multisamples, expansions later?

Anyhow, nice move from Korg, really, I don't think anyone even dreamed of such big free expansion pack.

It's likely they work the same way as the OASYS in that you can't even see them in the SAMPLING mode once they are loaded. So, I bet the only thing you will see in sampling mode are your own samples. The expansions come up in PROG mode just like all EXB expansions do.

If they just use RAM space, but don't actually interfere with user samples in any way, then it's...well, just great.

Thanks, Sharp.

Would it be too much to hope Korg even solved time lag issues, noticeable when changing programs, found some way to speed things up?

From what's been written here, if Sweetwater did in fact update my OS, and load the extra 512 voices, then I should have something besides Init Program/Combi in both banks E?
I don't!
:?
Hi Stephen,
When you turn on your M3, you should be able to see what version OS you have installed. Just watch the display as it boots up. If it reads 2.00, then in all likelihood it's pre-installed. If it reads 1.2.0 then you'll need to upgrade as per the instructions from the download available at Korg USA. If you are in doubt, give Sweetwater a call to confirm.

Aren't you glad you made the move to an M3???

Eric

Anyone experiencing an issue with loading data they previously created in v1.x should see this new wiki article I'm putting together. Feel free to add any useful information:

Wow, if I hadn't already been convinced to order an M3 (which I did earlier this week), then this synchronized release from both Korg and Karma would have killed the doubts completely.

I expect there will be a huge upsurge in sales of the M3 and of course massive sales of the new M50. The M3 Expanded release is like doubling the musical capacity of the M3, and I just can't believe Korg USA have given the upgrade away free of charge. It must be worth $750 at least for the 384 Mbytes of new samples, then there are the new built in sounds including top of the range pianos, then there are the new DAW-like sequencer controls.

Absolutely fantastic. Why would anyone want a Tyrannosaurus-3, with zero ability to survive the ice age, when the Ascent of M is already here :-)

I hope Frank ships my M3 before Korg USA double the RRP :-)

I do feel that by comparison with the M3 and M50, the Oasys has been left out in the cold. The Oasys is still the most upgradeable workstation in the world and it has a lot of life left. I might have been convinced to buy an Oasys instead of an M3 if there was evidence that Korg USA were still developing new facilities and add-ons for it.

Hi Rob:

Credit where credit is due, this is not Korg USA, this is Korg Inc. coordinating a world-wide program of support for our users and enhancement of our product. It's not a Korg USA thing...

Regards,

Jerry

Oh my...yes!
I've had some very nice synths in the past, KARMA, Motif ES, etc., but this one just rocks my world in every way!

It does make me feel a bit like a newby though, and that hasn't happened for some time. Lol! Must be age.
Thanks Eric.

So Stephen, did you get all your sounds loaded properly? Also, did you get the exb-radias? If not you should have both banks A-E loaded with sounds. I think my lower E bank is loaded with some of the classic triton sounds adapted to the M3, but since I have the radias I have A-F on top and bottom. Quite an arsenal so far. Also, are your combis working? I put my banks in their original order so not to reorganize them by category because my combis were a mess after that, and now I have all the sounds I need and the combis work. It was a bit of a mess at first but now I'm very happy.

My boot time with all 3 Xpansions loaded, is 1:53 (1 minute 53 seconds) from a SanDisk USB Stick.

Tested from a LaCie HDD too, exactly the same boot time... to the second.

Well, it sounds a very reasonable boot time!
Thanks a lot for the info!
While I'm posting, I'm listening to audio demos, they are stunning!
New sample sounds seems very usefull!

As a non-M3 owner, I must say it's very tempting now, having addressed (probably) my biggest gripe with the M3: its horrid pianos ...

Korg has done a terrific job with this update ...

Now I just have to get past one more thing ... the look of the M3 ... and for some reason, I have a feeling Korg will be updating that as well soon ...

which would be great 'cause I'd love to buy a demo-unit M3 ...

anyway ... if I was an M3 owner already I'd simply be atwitter. Atwitter, I say.
