EMX: how to have pure midi sequence in part without sound?
Hello,
I use EMX hooked via midi to Access Virus. EMX serves as drum machine, Virus as synth. I have problem - it is possible to have just notes on EMX's part, but without any sound ascribed to it?
I can't just plug off EMX output, because I need its drum sounds. But I need EMX also as a sequencer.
Of course, I could workout it by ascribing synths parts to "Output bus 3/4" and just leave it unplugged. But is there any EMX option which could cut off internal sounds without cutting midi sending?
Thanks for help

Re: EMX: how to have pure midi sequence in part without soun
Sending the synth parts to Output bus 3/4 doesn't affect the midi sending, it only changes where the audio is sent. Synth part 1 is still sent by default to MIDI channel 1, part 2 to MIDI channel 2 and so on.ruczaj wrote:Hello,

If you turn the volume down on a synth part while another keyboard is listening to that midi channel, you'll accidentally turn down the volume on it too. Changing the output bus has no effect on the midi events - so that won't happen if you turn off the part that way. Also, you can sometimes use the EMX-1 knobs to control the parameters of the external keyboard - if the CC# are coordinated between them.

but when you stop the EMX the Virus won't get the "note off" message and will sustain those notes infinately. I'm having the same problem actually.Tyler_raine wrote:All you have to do is turn the sample off for that particular part, it'll still have all the noted date being sent to your external midi synth but as your EMX has nothing selected nothing will sound from it. Hope that helps.
Thanks to all for answers. Unfortunatelly, turning volume down also turns down midi signal.
I found out just another solution: I select synth part and then turn oscilator to "audio in + comb". I'm not sure if it is right option, but it seems to work
When "audio in + comb" is set, sound is muted but midi sequence still goes to Virus.
But really, EMX lacks in option which Yamaha Rm1x has got: "tone generator off" filter, which can send only midi without sound.
Thanks to You all, anyway.

Maybe try to use EMX internal midi filter? You can get there: pres "Midi" key - then Midi Utility (press SHIFT and key 12)- then scroll to "MidiUtil Filter"-then press key 12 again. You will got PCEN and "oooo" below. You can use scroll to change some "o" to "x". "x" means that some midi signals are down. So, if You leave just N (NOTE) open, none of the knob movements will affect Your microKorg. Your mk will get only notes from EMX.BatterieslikeBullets wrote: this works but once u touch the level knob on the emx you get f'ed XD
I've got mk also, but I don't remember if it has its own midi filter, but I suppouse it has.
I hope it helps.
cheers
