This is really cool!
I don't understand why this isn't what it does by default for ext control (but I read that ableton users are into what it does do).
Is there a way to widen the range of notes to, say, 3 octaves?
Messing with this has me looking across the room at an old wacom tablet that my dog chewed the stylus up for. Looks like there's some drivers for that out there too...

Hmm, sounds complicated. Actually what I'm working on is re-writing the code in processing so you can re-map the KP3 yourself, to play whatever notes you want instead of the pre-programmed ones. Also, I want the y-axis to control an external filter/LFO as opposed to just velocity. So, work is being done!

edit - i don't know if you saw this, but you can change the ocatave by pressing hold+A and then 8 will bring it up and octave, hold+8 will bring it down and octave

Mac KP3->Kaossilator

Post by pcompton »

I am having a little difficulty trying to utilize this program and I suspect it could be one of two causes, I am an idiot or it is because I am using a mac. I have downloaded the software and the .bmtp shows up on the Bome's Midi program, but I cannot get it to work. My Midi in is set to KP3 and the Midi Out to Bomes' (though I have tried every combination) and I am in external control mode. My KP3 buttons just stay lit up and dont change at all when I fiddle with them. Any thoughts? I would love to get this to work.

Thanks,
Sam

hey sam, i don't have a mac to test code on, sadly. you may need to grab mmj, which is a glue between java and os x to allow midi connections to work properly...

check here for more

" My Midi in is set to KP3 and the Midi Out to Bomes' "

i'm not sure i follow?? in bome's you should have the kp3 as the input. the output needs to go to a synth of some kind.

"My KP3 buttons just stay lit up and dont change at all when I fiddle with them"

sadly, the do stay lit up, but they should be changing things behind the scenes.

those are my first thoughts, i'll let you know if something else occurs to me.

I think I've got it to work. I didn't realize that it required an external synth. Thanks for the quick feedback, now it's time to see if I am smart enough to actually use the program.

someone contacted me recently to make me aware of some bugs, just so you know. i haven't really used it a whole lot because the latency is pretty bad on my system.
