Making Length of Notes Consistent??

Post by johnbarnesiii »

Hello,

How do you make the length that each note is played consistent across a track in the sequencer?

For example, I played a bass part in track 1 & want to make it smoother & more consistent. First thing I did was quantize, then change velocity so all notes play at same strength/volume.

Now I want to make sure each note is played for same amount of time. How do I do that (preferably do it all at once instead of editing every single note manually)?

Thanks!!!

This is a very good question, which I also would like to know. On the TS you could just do this with the arpeggiator, with that you could dictate the exact duration of each note that it spit out, now w/out an arpeggiator per se, this becomes very difficult and yet it is crucial in many styles of music that certain notes are for very specific duration. If we have to always do this by hand, note by note, in event editor that is a major pain. That's the way I'm doing it now unless someone can jump in here with a better solution.

Can you even do it note for note in event editor? How?

I'll try calling Korg on Monday to see if it can be done for the whole track in one swoop without having to go manual for every note, but for now if someone can tell me how to do that note for note it would help.

Thanks.

There is no "quantize note length" function that I know of in the Korg sequencer. Your options are to either use Step Recording, which allows you specify the length of notes as you enter them or to set the lengths of individual notes in the Event Edit screen after you've recorded them. In the Event Editor the last column (L:) is the note length.

Yeah, Daz, I think you're right. I've never been able to wrap my brain around step sequencing but for really precise notes and duration, step is the way to go.

I remember this function on my old yamaha W5 that was called "change gate time" I think
very usefull for bass lines

I'd like it on M3 :D
YAMAHA W5 + TRITON proX (exb MOSS / exb PCM01 / exb PCM05 / exb SCSI / 64Mo) + M3-73 No.000187 v2.0 (exb Radias v2.0 / exb M256) + DOEPFER LMK2+
AKAI DPS16 + MINDPRINT Envoice + ART Dual MP + RODE NT1000
BEHRINGER DDX3216 + 4 MACKIE SRM350 + 2 MACKIE SWA1501 (+ PEAVEY KB300 )

Daz is right - the only way I know is to edit each note individually in the sequencer event edit screen - last col.

Its unfortunate -- there is an entire host of what I would call "sequencer 101" functions missing in the M3. The other one that drives me crazy is the inability to raise all velocities in a range by a fixed amount.

Oh well, its not keeping me from making good music, however...

You can modify velocity for a track for a given set of measures, and you can even vary it a bit if you want some randomness withing a speficific velocity setting.
