Record a short style chord session ?

Post by macboy »

Hi Folks. This seems a little strange, but I don't know quite how to explain it, but here I shall try.

When I play a certain thing in the arranger modus, sometimes I have a certain chord change (balkan music, kolo) with 4 chords (A/Dm/B/E). Sometimes this chord change requires a solo to be played with my right hand, but it could be too difficult to to both at the same time.

It could be easy if my arranger could do it for me (playing the A/Dm/B/E loop non-stop and me playing the solo.

I can record a song or sequence, but this is not it: the problem is I am changing these chords constantly while playing, thus needing to constantly change the loop on an irregular basis.

On my old Roland E16 or E70 (16 years old??) there was a small simple RECORD button which you could press and it would record the chords while playing live within the style measurement (4/4 mostly).

This was superb but I haven't it seen back on the new arrangers !

Does any body have a clue what I am talking about (English is not my main language) and I notice it's difficult to explain.

And if people do understand me: have I been missing some cool feature on the PA800 ?

Once again: recording in sequence mode or song mode or midi is NOT possible, since these are all live things I come up with while playing. It is not regular or part of a certain song I am playing. So that is not a solution.

I'm not quite sure (because I never done it myself yet), but I think you can use pad-programming to do this.
Then you would have the sequence under a button. And you can have several variations too.
Good luck!

You mean a Chord-Sequencer. Which i had also on my Roland G1000.
It was a very usefull function which i also miss in new arranger keyboards.
I´ve found no work around for that

No, I meant: programming a sequence (or several sequences) under a Pad-button.
This can be done with all Korg PA's.
It seems to me that this can solve your problem.
But I'm not sure, because I never dealt with pad-sequencing myself.

Perhaps another (more experienced) forum-member can help you in more detail?

Good luck again!

Hi
If I understood you right, here is what you can do;
if You know how to create a style, then choose any of the variations 1/2/3/4 and record the the chord progression you want {A/Dm/B/E} [but remeber to set the chord key in the same key ] once let's say 1 measure each, so total of 4 measures, & save it as a style, this will loop itself as you hold the 1st chors only in this case A. hope this helps...

Hi Korgmoly. Thanks for the answer. But this is not what I meant. I meant a chord sequencer like Hubert sais.

So ON THE FLY so this could be done during LIVE play.

For example, I am playing live A/G/C and back to A/G/C etc

Than I do not want to use my left hand, but I want Korg to memorize the chord sequence A/G/C on a button.

When I press the button, it records, when I release the button, it plays the chord sequence A/G/C.

I know I can record it before hand, but I want it live. Not recorded. Because I never know what chords I will be playing understand?

I am just giving example A/G/C but when playing live it could also be A/G/G/A/D.

So you cannot stop in a song and create a new style and than play again, that is not on the fly.

With your answer, it is also VERY easy to record a style Dm. But if you press Dm7 it plays the wanted chord sequence. If you release Dm7 it goes back to Dm.

I know this trick, but this is not on the fly live.

Maybe Fransman has a hint with the pads ? But that means when I press a PAD it starts recording the chord sequence and when I press again or release it, it play's it ?

Don't think that this is possible... Fransman: any more info ?

That can be easily done only in Ketron with the RIFF function, in KORG you
can probably do it using an Intro...go to Intro then let the style go back to var.
