Movie Soundtrack Opportunity

Post by georgeinar »

A friend of mine, who is becoming quite a successful little movie director/producer, who's short just won first prize somewhere in Europe, has asked me if I'd be interested in doing a musical soundtrack for an 8 minute children's sci-fi movie which is already finished and just needs a musical soundtrack to go with it. I agreed, and so this may be my Nov tune as I'm making some good progress on my Oct one. In exchange for this she will produce a music video of me with one of my songs that I can then put up on youtube etc. This is a great opportunity. I may need some help here on how to do this. I haven't a clue on doing music for timing issues etc. But I'm excited.

I've done this, and although it was painstaking, and labor intensive, it was fun to watch the results.
Mine was for a 60 second commercial, using Acid Pro, and loops, I can't imagine 8 minutes, but I know you can do it.
Congratulation, and best of luck.

Sounds like a great musical challenge, and the video of your song sounds cool too!
A friend of mine has asked me to put sound to his poems, I recorded his vocals months ago, but need to find some time to sit down and work out what I'm going to do.
I might use one of them for osam, but we'll see.
I'm still running a little late, but normal service will resumed as soon as possible.

It is quite fun to work with that. Fortunately I have been able to work with Nuendo which allows hard coded time to be synced with video.

I don't know how time lock intensive the eight minute project will be. If it is not too sync necessary this should be a cake walk for you. That reminds me of a childrens audio book I did a few years back: Princess Beet. It was kinda cute. Since I was only working with voiced audio, timing was REAL easy.

In fact I probably still got a snippet around if you are interested.

I'm hoping that this is just background and atmospheric music which I could just play along with the video and improvise. I'm wondering how to quantize any portions that might be beat based. For instance if I do some synth pads in a sustained sort of way and then an actual beat kicks in with some bass and lead for set time, I'm wondering from a sequencing standpoint how to set the bpm and measures. I guess I can do it in sections. Or figure out the basic bpm that I will need and then just play "unquantized" the more free form stuff. I guess I'm saying, how to go back and forth from beat to symphonic and back again, in a midi sequence. Maybe I'll have to do tempo changes throughout.

I just thought one way would be to sample the "song" portion and bring in the sample when I need it and I wouldn't have to keep it all in midi at once.

Wow - that is so cool - a sound track. 8 min. - ohh man! That is a long time for a tune - for me anyways :-)

Can't wait to see your music video - there are some good ones on da tube - they are always fun.

As for syncing - man I have no idea.

Good luck and congrats!

Hi George

This sounds like a great opportunity for you. Please let us know how you solve the various syncing issues that come up.

And Jon, try to find that 'snippet' you mentioned!
