Best Karo Acoustic Piano disc?

Post by MrT-Man »

I was wondering if anyone's bought all of the three Karo acoustic piano sets & can comment on which is the best? I'm thinking of buying one, not sure that I want to invest in the entirle bundle.

I realize that "best" might be subjective... but are they all of pretty equal caliber & quality or is there one or two that especially stand out? I tend to be more partial to Steinway sounds myself, in terms of other sample libraries I've tried.

Well, I've got the bundle. But your question is not so easy to answer. Each piano has its own characteristics. Moreover a free-update is in Karo's pipeline with new soundsettings. I'd rather wait for that befor I give a final comment. Until now Boesendorfer and Steinway would be my favorites - but that are already 2 DVDs.

Karo Piano update

Post by newguy »

Hey Charlie, have you made your decision yet as to the best of the Karo accoustic pianos. I am awaiting your review before I buy one (I was leaning towards the Bosendorfer set, but could easily be swayed). I spent some time last night playing the Oasys pianos and frankly can't wait much longer before ordering something that is hopefully more natural.

I look forward to your response.

Öhm - sorry - I understand that Karo wants to launch an updated PCG file and I'd rather wait for that befor a final comment. 8)

If you don't want to wait any longer I'd either go for the Bösendorfer or the Steinway Disc depending on your taste - not because one could say they sound "better" than Schimmel, Bechstein etc. but because I regard these two as THE pianos. And as I'm from Austria I'd prefer the Bösendorfer of course ...

EDIT: just realized I've written nearly the same 2 posts above - one should realy read the whole thread befor posting ...

Charlie,

I was under the impression that you had received the update in the interim period since your last post and wanted to know what your final decision was.

In any event, based on your initial thoughts and my own sampling of the piano sounds that Karo posted on their site, I just purchased Piano II - the Bosendorfer/Bechstein pianos.

And I just got an email confirming that that updated versions (at least to disk 2) will be ready shortly (as in days).

I will post my thoughts and comparison against the Oasys pianos after I get these and have a chance to work with it.
