Alternative products to the Electribe MX
Hey guys,
Simple question
Are there any products that are similar to the Korg Electribe MX that aren't made by korg?
Thanks
Chris

the new thing that is coming out from Dave Smith and Roger Linn looks promising.
it all depends what you wanna do. there are a couple combinations that could give you a similar kind of minimal set up. I've been thinking that a akai MPC 1000 plus a Novation KS rack or Nova would be a rad set up that would be intuitive and easy to use and have a similar structure to the emx, as far as sequancer+drum sounds + 4 synth parts.
Another all-in one set up that looks cool is the alesis fusion. Sampling, sequanceing, Virtual Analog synth, Fm synth and hard disk recorder all in one. those are getting cheaper too. you can score a used one for about $500.
what type of music are you wanting to make?

Umm.. I dont want to sound unhelpful, but this may not be the best place to ask for an unbiast opinion
Or maybe its cos we all realise that an EMX is _THE_ piece of kit to get
That being said, you could break down the things you like about the EMX and we can suggest alternatives.
If its the sequencing built in, you're looking at an Electribe or Akai MPC really. I don't have much (any) experience with others besides the EMX, but thats the conclusion I came to.
The synth side of things, there are a ton out there. Look at a Roland Jono, Access Virus T1, Nord Lead or Korg Radias or MicroKorg. These are just ones I like, and Im sure you'll get plenty more suggestions if you ask.
Another option you might want to look at is a control surface (midi keyboard, padKontrol/TriggerFinger, anything) and software like Ableton Live. If you have a laptop (for live performances if so inclined), you're halfway there. Depends what you feel like. I use both my EMX, and Ableton with my Axiom 49 and love both. Just dont lose track of what you want to do. You want to 'make music' not play with a machine.
Just my $.02

A strange question, what is wrong with emx-1?

I disagree for me personally working inside ableton is much more intuitive simply due to the fact that I can manipulate 20 parameters at a time about one sound which works better for me because I'm able to keep track of them. This is personal preference though, I love both the emx and esx but I am much better fit for ableton. Key factor here being personal preference.
