Post by ms_synthi »

im new to the synth world.

i have a micro korg, and am trying to connect it to my laptop. the MIDI cabel (if that is what it is) is too big for the socket on my laptop.

yes, you need something that has midi in/out and a usb or firewire connection. Make sure you have a firewire connection before purchasing an interface.
If you don't know, post a pic of the ports on your computer and I'll tell you what you have.

Hi,
I'm totally new in this world. In fact I just bought microkorg 3 hours ago.
Ive been trying to connect it to my laptop (I have tried on both xp and vista) and nothing seemed to work. I used Edirol UM 1 EX as the MIDI interface. Installed the driver successfully.
Plugged both the MIDI IN and MIDI out on mk, and the other end to my laptop's usb port. I used Ableton live, it does detect it (flashing thingy when I touched a key) but theres no sounds coming out of it.
I also tried either plugged only either the MIDI IN or OUT. but that didnt do anything good.
Do I have to change any settings on my soundcard? OS? or whatever? What did I do wrong? Grrr I didnt think i would have a prob connecting it to my laptop at all when I bought it. the sales guy was like yeah this MIDI interface is all u need.
Feel free to call me noobs, but please help!! i'm getting frustrated...let me know what other info you need from me.
