I have 4 LED's blown plus my Pa2x has locked up due to hardware failure on 3 occasions. I think the key and LED scanning circuitry has an intermittent fault.

Thanks,
Rob

I bought my PA2X in December 2007 and since one week am having a problem with the "Display Hold" led; the button works as usual (if I press it once the display stays on the last menu, without reverting back to the default one), but the led does not work.
I don't want to send my keyboard to a repair center for such a trivial thing and so wonder: is there a way to buy these leds/buttons online? I have tried at Thomann, but they apparently don't carry them.
Thanks
A.

Hi Dreamer,

You would need a very good quality miniature soldering iron to carefully desolder the old one. Suggest you cut each leg first, then remove each leg separately. Then you will need a solder sucker to clean the two plated through holes without damaging the hole plating. Then solder the new one in, using an ROHS compliant multicore solder wire.

There's a few IC's on the PCB with over 100 surface mount connections. Hope you never want to change one of those :-)

Best regards,
Rob

Hi,

Since there have not been reports from the Service Centers on this issue, we are not yet aware of serious problems with the LEDs.

Whoever has the problem, please:

- check and report to my Personal Mail the serial number of your Pa2X;
- keep your Pa2X to a Service Center, so that they can repair and investigate on this issue.

This is the only way we can understand what is causing the problem, and if it is really a recurring one.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Best regards,
Paolo

Mr Tramannoni

Thank you for your very professional position on this.

However, like Dreamer, I just have one led out while the button still functions (Style Play mode).

Am I going to drive for an hour to my nearest service center and risk having to leave the board there for repair for a number of days? No.

I play this board because I need to practice or perform professionally every day. I'll just put up with it. Am I happy with that. No.

Am I concerned that it may get worse. Definitely. These components are apparently from a poor quality supplier or failing because of a more complex design fault.

You may need to recall the more severe ones and provide the owners with remanufactured replacements so that they do not have to go through the inconvenience of doing with out the tool of their trade.

Thank you for all the great concepts built into the Pa2X. I truly love it! Thank you for all the work to create OS 2.0. I am very excited to download.

Thank you for your sense of urgency once you heard about the physical led problems. We need it resolved!

Dear Paolo,
I agree with what PraiseTheLord wrote: I can live with this problem and definitely don't feel like carrying my PA2X to the nearest Korg repair center and leaving it there for a number of days (even if I live in Rome, where in theory things should work better, or at least a spare part should be easier to find).
But, like Graham, I am definitely worried about the possibility that things get worse in the future; I had thought of buying a new led and replacing it myself, but after reading what Rob wrote I am not so sure that I could do it without causing a much more serious damage to the board.

The serial number of my PA2X Pro is 3001001 and it was purchased in December 2007.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Dear Paolo,

Re: Korg Pa2x Pro LED Failure

As per your request on the Korg Forum: My Pa2x has one failed LED. It is upper one of the pair which indicate Style Selection 11/20 and Favorite.

Date of purchase: 27 June 08 - s/n 3002687.

I live in a remote area of central France and purchased the keyboard from the UK dealer Hamiltons Music. It is therefore not reasonable to simply instruct that I take the pa2x to a Service Center for repair.

Further to which, and with respect, if, as you say in your post, Korg are still trying to understand what is causing the problem, then may I ask: exactly what is the Korg Service Center going to repair?

Given the above, does Korg intend to simply replace the failed components with the same, rendering the Keyboard just as likely to fail again or, in truth, have Korg already identified the problem and can make a 12 month guaranteed repair?

A few years back, I had a failure of the USB on a Yamaha Tyros I had purchased. Within 48 hours of my reporting the problem, I had a replacement keyboard delivered and the failed one taken away.

The reason I tell you this is because this swift ‘Doorstep Exchange’ made me feel good and rekindles my respect for Yamaha.

In contrast, my pleasure from my Korg Pa2X is distracted by my real concern that, the more I play the keyboard, the more likely other LEDs will fail, and I am so glad that Korg don’t manufacture aircraft or electronic equipment for intensive care.

Reading the many comments on the Korg Forum with regard to problems with the Pa2x, there is no doubt that Korg still has sincere users who are prepared to believe that things will be rectified. How I wish I was one of these precious people.

Like a great many people, music is an important and pleasurable part of my life and I do not want this to be spoiled by the failings of Korg - a manufacturer of musical instruments which, up until my last two purchases, I had the highest respect.

I say the last two purchases because I also purchased a Korg M3R and my pleasure from this instrument is distracted by having to remember to take great care when pushing the buttons, so that the disappearing print will last a little longer.

I sincerely hope Korg will rectify the situation with action appropriate to that of a manufacturer wanting to redeem respectability.

Sincerely
David Hart

I bought my Pa2x on November of 2007 and now I have 7 or 8 led's not working. Every week one goes bad. Korg needs to get on this and fix the problem.

Hi Mono,

At the time the LED's failed did anything else "bad" happen?

Distorted sounds?
Any keys not working?
Lights in your house or venue flickering?
"Pops" and "clicks" from the loudspeakers?

Thanks,
Rob

Pa2x LED failure

Post by ROBOKEYS »

This led faliure must be a big let down for all of you that paid the big bucks for this keyboard. I am a current owner of a pa1x pro and was thinking about upgrading to a pa2xpro. I will now hold off untill I see what korg does
about this problem. I know a lot of people have had problems with the buttons on the pa1x in the past. When I bought my pa1xpro I also bought
the ec5 pedal and assigned my start/stop button etc. to help save me from using the buttons on the keyboard. By doing this it has saved me from having any problems so far. I hope that korg gets on the stick and finds the problem. This should not be happening to a keyboard with this price tag!
