Depth Knob om EMX-1 broken?
It seems that my depth knob makes some quirks here and there while not even being touched. The main screen on my EMX-1 shows how it is becoming + or - even when the machine is idle. This is making me wonder what I can do to fix this so it does not mess up my setting when playing pre-recorded loops of patterns live.
You, my friend are experiencing the most common electribe problem. It is called knob jitters and is caused by wear on the potentiometers. The only way to fix it is to replace the knob. You could totally do it yourself but only if you have soldering skills, and are able to take apart and put things together. The electribe's internals have several quirks and if you accidentally pull you'll screw it up and fixing a pot will be a much bigger ordeal then you'd ever hope for. On that note if you have any doubts i'd take it to a certified repair shop. They'll fix you up and it's really not too expensive to replace a pot.

I bought this EMX a few months ago so wouldn't this be under warranty or no? I thought that I read somewhere it was under warranty for a year? Am i just purchasing another set of knobs? Do they have to be special for the EMX or can I pick some up at radioshack? I am confident that I can solder what needs to be done as long as I know exactly what to look for. If not, how much money do you think it is getting my electribe fixed at some music shop?

Thanks Ruso. I checked out the Korg website and found a few Korg certified shops in my state. How should I go upon getting my EMX fixed? Do I contact Korg or the shop first? What proof do I need to bring or show that this electribe is less than a year old and purchased my brand new EMX that had been shipped from dealer. I shouldn't have to pay anything correct? How long would this normally take to get this fixed at shop because I need it for upcoming shows? Also, what am I going to say exactly when referring to my machines problem when contacting this electronic shop? Sorry for having so many questions! I actually noticed a few other knobs doing the same thing at practice last night.

Luckily, I still have my sales receipt from the mail-order company. Now, you are saying to simply call the Korg service center in which I found on the Korg website, then tell them my Korg product has been having problems because various knobs are jittering on the main screen? Hopefully they won't have any problems during the process of getting my machine into the shop and fixed. I don't want to sound like a complete newbie when I am on the phone making the appointment to bring it in and get fixed, so if I am missing anything please let me know!
don't worry dude usually they are a small shop with an electronics geek in there or two. Either give em a call and say your machine is having problems with the knobs. They skip values even without being touched. Tell them you heard it's called knob jitters and is a common problem with these machines.

I called yesterday and they were super nice. I told them my problem with the machine and said it would be free under my warranty as long as I bring my paper work to prove it. I will have to bring it sometime next week because no one will be there this Thursday-Friday and I am recording guitar in the city with my band today. This couldn't of happened at a more busy time, but it seems like it happens to a lot of other people too. Hopefully everything gets fixed within a week or two. I really appreciate your help guys!
