Using Motif Rack module with PA 800?

Post by Nick G »

has anyone done this or know if it can be done?

basically i want to add Synth voices with out without an arpeggio sequence to the 3 upper and also the lower voice tracks of the Korg PA 800 while in Style play mode.

is there a way i can just select a voice from the Motif XS rack module and play it through the Korg PA 800 just normally with a style playing in the background?

reason why i am doing this - i am highly unsatisfied with the Synth Leads / Dance & trance hooks on the PA 800...

unless i can purchase some synth lead sample banks from somewhere??

thanks
Nick

Nick,
I am not sure I understood the question...but here goes...YES.

One neat thing about the PA is that you can setup a USER voice with external control. I have done this and it works super. NO YAMAHA arrangers can do this! It is one reason I have the Korg.

So, you can setup a new user voice, set it to external only and set it with the correct MIDI bank and program change to automatically select the voice on the Motif rack for you.

You can have lots of these. You can use the motif as a extension to the built in sounds. You can use these voices in any style play track you want, including RH and LH. They will be jst like any other voice on the board. You can assign them in styles, performances and songbook.

You have to have the MIDI setting correct, the track settings correct and the bank/program change correct for this to work.

If you are not familiar with what I am talking abut, you will need to read up on MIDI and look at the PA800 manual to find the things I talk about here. Since you have a PRO level synth rack (Motif XS) I'm sure you are following what I say?

Thanks Lee,

i understand exactly what you have said and yes it answers all my questions!

I haven't purchased the XS rack yet though... I previously owned a Motif XS 6 before selling for the Korg PA 800. i just want the sounds of the Motif now added to my PA 800 and i have the ultimate setup!! :)

cheers,
Nick

Hi Nick,
haven't tried it with a motif, but I did manage to set up my sd2 module with the PA800. Korg sent program & bank changes flawlessly to the sd2.
Bear in mind SD2 has no screen & no buttons, so korg had to do the lot.
My PSR couldn't do it.
best wishes

Hi Nick,

Just a suggestion before you commit to the XS rack ...

Have you tried the synth sounds from the Korg M3 fitted with EXB-Radias card? You can buy the M3 with or without keybed.

Regards,
Rob

Hi Nick,
you're right. These sounds are not very well on the PA800 (and 2xPro) BUT here is the good news, you can load triton PRG's and there are VERY GOOD leads and Dance/Trance sounds for these synths. You can find the complete synthvoices of the Triton Le somewhere on the internet (sorry can't find the URL now, i can email them to you) and there are some good leads and dance/trance sounds in there.

So before buying an extra synth and or module you can try this out.

I found them; Triton LE sounds are here

Hi,

thanks for our advice and the link!
i have found a couple of Triton LE Zip files on this page under the PA1x and PA1x pro section. what do i do with them? can i just load them into my pa 800 as user sounds?

are these actual samples or just edited voices?

thanks

How about controling the efects of MOTIF via Pa800. Is it possible?

I'd appreciate if someone can point me to the instructions to create these external user sounds that are rendered using an external module. I have a Motif ES rack that I'd like to use with my PA2xPro.
Thanks
