Audio Recording question

Post by Carmen »

Hello all. I'm a vocal coach and I'm examining the M3 for use in my teaching studio. As such I have some questions that I haven't been able to find answers for through the manuals or other online resources.

1) Can the M3 record a singer through the mic input at the same time that the M3 is playing back a midi track(s) through external speakers?

2) If it can be recorded, can it be played back fairly quickly without a lot of fussing around.

3) How long of an audio file can be recorded? (this is probably a memory dependent question so assume maximum memory)

Thanks for any help that you can offer.

hi carmen, the M3 has not any XLR imput with phatom power, they have standard 1/4 jack that can be used for Line In or for mic (switch on the rear). you can record from this audio input using sampling option (48Khz, 16bit).

with the standand 64MB RAm you can record 11min and 39sec of mono sample or 5min and 49sec of stereo sample.

in the 256MB RAM expansion, you can record 46min and 36sec of mono sample or 23min and 19sec of stereo sample.

you can also sample to your own USB storage connected to M3

a voice recording will be considered as a single sample, you can sample while listening to a midi file playbacked by the M3 sequencer both only the audio input either the sequencer+audio input.

Thanks Kimu

You've clarified something for me. Initially when reading through the manuals I was looking for references to audio recording, not sampling. I didn't equate sampling with the functionality that it apparently has. Thanks for information.

You mention that the playback, while recording a sample, can be either the midi file + the sampling, or just the midi file. If I understand that correctly it would provide a way to eliminate feedback with microphone and the monitors, correct?

Thanks

mmm not exactly, i mean that you can sing along with a midi file played by the M3 sequencer and sampling either only the audio input (your mic) or the audio input + the sequencer.

anyway i think is possible when sampling not to route the audio input to the audio output (but never done myself, so better to check in the manual)
