Im thinking of adding the KLC DE to my setup, as i love the sound
of the M1, but have a few questions.
1. What is the dongle supposed to do? How is it used?
2. How does the sound compare to the original h/ware?

The dongle is a copy protection device used by Korg, Virsyn, Steinberg and many others. It is a USB key plugged into one of your USB ports.
I think the whole KLC collection sounds as good, and in the case of the Wavestation, even better than the original, plus there are a number of features particular to each synth that expands the harware by varying amounts. This is especially true in the case of the Mono/Poly, probably my favourite of the lot.
