EMX-1 and Kaoss Pad 3

Post by harvestein »

Any of you guys use your electribe along with the KP3? I was going to invest in one after seeing beardyman use it on his beatboxing sets, i like the instant sample playback feature.

Do any of you use it for any magic tricks with your electribe? Just thought id find out a few things to try when i get it.

cheers.

emx and KP3

want to know whats really cool???

You can physically route a single synth part out via 3/4 " OUT on its own to the kp3.

so you can have ONE single synth part getting kontrolled by the mighty KP3.
set a saw wave to synth part one,and route it out to the Kp3,and turn on the Mod 3 setting,to getting an echoing, reverberating acid gurgle.

Unbelivable.

I've been using my EMX-1 through a KP3 for a couple of years. I use the KP3 for two (pretty obvious) things primarily: as a second layer of efx, and also as a loop sampler to mix & fade EMX tracks into one another, i.e. like a DJ would do with two records. Works fairly well for these functions, and now that OS 2.0 is out you've got even more looping tools. It's pretty inspiring and I'm sure I'm still just scratching the surface.

One caveat, though, regarding a well-known shortcoming of the KP3: Even when you've got it sync'd up via MIDI to an external clock, the recorded loops still get out of sync with the source track after 15-20 repetitions. Even though the EMX is also a KORG box, this still happens, even with OS 2.0 installed. The good news is KORG engineers do read these forums, and they're aware of the issue...lots of people are hoping they'll fix the problem once and for all with a future update.

We can't help unless you are more specific. What are you trying to do? Each of the machines you mention might be a good choice, but it depends on your musical goal.
