Zero 4 and Traktor Scratch Pro Audio routing

Post by rhesje »

So I just picked up my Zero 4 and have been trying to figure out how to route the audio from traktor thru the zero 4 in the best way. I can currently use the control cds to send Timecode to traktor and then route the audio out of traktor back to the zero 4. No problems there... well one small problem. Let me elaborate... what follows is how i was able to get traktor to work with the zero 4 at all

Hardware setup
Zero 4 with firmware 1.6
Zero Edit preset PreEQ (all channels output to firewire preEQ)
cdj 1 into line/cd channel 1 on the zero 4
cdj 2 into line/cd channel 4 on the zero 4

Zero 4 Channel 1 input selector set to CD/Line
Zero 4 Channel 2 input selector set to Firewire/Audio
Zero 4 Channel 3 input selector set to Firewire/Audio
Zero 4 Channel 4 input selector set to CD/Line

Traktor setup
Installed on a Macbook OSX 10.5.6

Audio Setup
- Audio Device = Zero4 (0781)(18in, 8out)
- Sample Rate = 44100Khz

Output Routing
- Mixing Mode = External
- Output Channel A L = Zero4 (0781) Out 2
- Output Channel A R = Zero4 (0781) Out 3
- Output Channel B L = Zero4 (0781) Out 4
- Output Channel B R = Zero4 (0781) Out 5

Input Routing
- Input Channel A L = Zero4 (0781) In 0
- Input Channel A R = Zero4 (0781) In1
- Input Channel B L = Zero4 (0781) In 6
- Input Channel B R = Zero4(0781) In 7

My problem here is that this means i can only use decks A and B with the Zero4 at one time. Channels 1 & 4 are reserved to transmit the Timecode to Traktor and the output of decks A & B have to be sent back to Channels 2 & 3. I want to set it up so that Traktor only uses one Zero 4 Channel per deck so that the Timecode data is sent to Traktor on Channel 1 and returns back to the Zero 4 on the same channel. Is this not possible? Am I missing something obvious? It seems a bit rediculous that I have to use all 4 Channels to play on 2 decks.

Anyone have any idea how to get the zero 4 and/or traktor set up to work this way?

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

** Update **

I was told on the NI forum that this is a driver issue (windows is suppose) I am still not sure if that means i'm waiting on NI to update TSP or Korg to update the firmware on the Zero 4 but it would seem that for the time being I have to make do with just 2 decks grrrrr....

I got my Z8 working with TSP with one channel receiving timecode and the same channel transmitting the audio back to the mixer, so I can't see why it shouldn't be possible with the Z4 as well.

This was on the Vista driver download page for the Z8 - you might want to try it: http://www.korg.co.jp/Support/Download/ ... r/win.html

The manual is in Japanese, but it looks simple enough - just select whether you want your Z4 to send CD or Phono back to the computer, and choose your MIDI port, then hit submit.

I don't have a Z4, so I can't test it, but I can't see why it wouldn't (other than this being korg, and nothing is ever that simple ;) )

Thanks I will look into this and see if I can figure it out. I think my problem is that the channel is sending the wrong input to the computer when I set it to Audio + Midi or something along those lines
