Need Help With Midi (Korg Microkorg to a Yamaha YPT-300)

Post by Timmicrokorg »

I am new to the whole MIDI world, so I might need everything in Lehmen's terms :(. sorry :\

So I went out and bought 3 MIDI Cables the other day, and when I plug a cable from the "Out" port on my korg, to the "in" port on my yamaha, the korg ends up playing all of the yamaha settings through the yamaha speakers.

My objective is to be able to play the Korg's settings on the yamaha, through the yamaha speakers.

I've tried changing the midi channel from 1 all the way through to 16 on the korg, however i cannot find anywhere on the Yamaha to change the channels, so i assume it's default is set at one?

I really have no idea what i'm talking about :-\

any help would be much appreciated.

Exactly which speakers are you referring to? The ones built into a Yamaha keyboard? If so, which model keyboard.

If the Yamaha Keyboard doesn't have audio input jacks, then there's no way to do what you want. Midi cables to do not send audio. No audio sounds ever go across midi cables.

That would explain my problem then.

So I have an amp that I use to practice with my band, so is there any possible way for me to maybe plug the korg into the amp, and maybe play the korg's programs just with the yamaha keyboard?

The keyboard is PSR-E303 YPT-300.

And yes, in the former post i was referring to the speakers built into the yamaha, however i could also use the amp i have.

If it's a guitar amp, you can hook at least one keyboard to it, but it probably won't sound very good.

I would recommend that you buy the Logitech Z-2300 from Amazon for $88.29. It is a very good value and sounds much better than most amps, even better than keyboard amps. It's good for music too. It's a THX rated 200W system. You might be able to find it at a local store to try out for yourself. It will make your keyboards sound much better. You also may need a mini-mixer with at least two stereo inputs and one stereo output, so that you can mix the sound of the two keyboards together in stereo.
