Mauro,

if this is really your opinion why do not you sell it? The longer you wait the less money you will receive.

I do not have the money available at the moment as otherwise I would be interested. OASYS to me is the best purchase I ever made. It took me some time to realise that but I am happy that I did.

Somehow I am getting the impression that new engines are a hope to get just new factory sounds. There is nothing wrong about it.. it is just that this kind of hunger never will be satisfied as long as one does not start to program and play around himself.

What makes you think that OASYS is a waste of money? Is it the sound quality or is it for example that there are not enough synth engines? it was mentioned several times here, sampling (hd1), vector synthesis, wave sequencing, virtual analogs like al-1, ms-20, polysix, string model str-1, fm (mod-7) with access to thousands of sounds. Aren't these enough tools to get nice results already? To add something valuable to your music.. your "signature"? Not to forget 3rd party like Stephen & Eric, Sharp and KARO. Or what is it what you are missing? Is it that other Korg instruments got recently more attention?

No doubt there are some things I would like to see improved and I know that I have contributed to the wishlist some time ago as well. But not getting these tools does not mean that OASYS is not an excellent instrument already. To me it is, definitely the best instrument I ever bought.

Catalyst 1 is a great combi set. Eric and Stephen did a masterful job using Karma to flesh out the set. For $32.00 US, how can you go wrong? Definitely a "Players Combi Set" IMO. I can hear Eric's influence in the set and that is a good thing. Great set.

I get that impression too. Some folks regularly ask for new engines, but I can't imagine people are really digging into what they have already. If they were the threads here on the forum would look very different, because there are a lot of things that I am sure people would want discuss. I know one guy who definitely digs in there and he often posts questions over at KLF, and I've very much enjoyed exchanging ideas with him. I am surprised there isn't more conversations along those lines here. I can only remember a small handful of times the subject of programming the engines came up, in the last few years.

True ! In Program mode you will find a sound design heaven. The Oasys contains what are in my opinion the best sounding and most luxuriously appointed synth engines ever offered. The AL-1, MOD-7 and STR-1 are a small mines of sonic inspiration.

One day these engines will make their way from under the workstation bushel that they are hidden under currently and hopefully a wider audience will get to appreciate them. Right now it's like a secret that only a few seem to enjoy.

Now I really must go check out Catalyst, as I had Eclectric and that was fantastic for jamming and also a real lesson in KARMA application, so I suspect this beasty will be even more of both. Thanks Stephen and Eric.

2c,

Daz.

Yes, the doc's are very impressive, lot of work went into it. Can you imagine this type of documentation coming with the original 364 Oasys combi's.

Heh, just the 64 page doc is worth 32 bucks lol - i will be buying soon!

Problem with demo file - fixed

Post by StephenKay »

Oops, it appears that there was a problem with the demo file - on some Windows machines. It was either playing back distorted and weird, or it was playing too slow (actually, I heard this on an older Mac, too). This was due to the fact that I apparently created the mp3 at 48k instead of 44.100, I guess. Some problem with the Flash Player.

Anyway, the problem has now been corrected. It should sound correct - note that you may need to clear your internet cache files.

Sorry if you listened to it and thought "wow, that's kind of a weird, slow groove."

Stephen and Eric -

Just tried these combi's. They are absolutely stunning. I don't know how you do it - but these Combis will offer buckets of improvising options, buckets of options for media composing and buckets of learning by looking into them as to how they work.

I said previously that I sometimes find Combi's 'too full on' and don't feel like I'm composing. Never the less - these are particularly well constructed - truly fantastic lead sounds totally appropriate to each of the wide range of genres they cover; excellent aftertouch vibrato on many of them (I personally love that!!) - brilliant scene changes, and overall the Karma programming does not overwhelm and allows for really joyous playing, modifying and improvising. I will personally delve into these to try tolearn how to do Combi's properly - awesome.

Thanks a million - 32 gems of Karma mastery - keenly priced in these lean times too! Overall - a valuable addition to any OASYS aresenal and no doubt will find there way to may top TV shows, documentaries and instrumental tracks.

Cheers,
Kevin.

Kevin, thanks for that glowing review! I know you're a "discerning user" so that makes it all the more appreciated. :)

Hey, Kevin,
Thanks alot for that, Mate. Have you tried 030 Temple of Mordra? This combi is for you. You'll love the lead Guitar in the right hand. There are quite a few different tricks that you will enjoy: e.g., Velocity mod and JS-Y for that classic rock guitar harmonics etc. You'll see.
Cheers,
Eric

I like the documentation - this is really great stuff! I often spend half an hour to understand how a Combi should work - this description will help me getting results much faster. Thanx for taking the time for a good docu as well! =D>

What I do not like is that KLF seems to be down at the moment. And my download-link will not work for ever.

Hi Charlie. I noticed that KLF just went down too. But, that must have just happened because I replied to a PM there a few minutes ago. However, I'm not sure what you mean. What is it that you need to download for CAT1?
